Altho i wouldn't buy one, it looks good for a Metric Crusier.
Clean uncluttered.
H-D could learn a few styling lessons from Honda,Its what the Rocker could've /should've been.Instead of the pig ugly thing it is.
I agree with BD it'd look better with polished rims.

Don't take it personally, remember beauty is in the ey of the beholder - a lot of people don't find Buell's that attractive..... :D
As the French would say 'vive la différence!' - I think one of the great things about the NZ motorcycle scene is the huge variety of machinery (not to mention riders/owners!).....each to their own.

Hey, absolutely agree. Which I guess Is why I dont get some of the negative press toward the rocker.
I like all kinds of bikes/makes. Other Harleys, Triumph, Ducati etc etc. I don't mind the look of the Honda too.

I was disappointed by the amount of plastic on the bike. Shame they couldn't have used steel on the guards etc.... Riding position seems comfy enough. Will never be a harley tho.

I rode it to pookee and back today - Runcimen Rd was very enjoyable, and it's perfick on the freeway. Just sat on the speed limit all day and was happy doing it.
Comfort is good, the seat gets slightly warm, not hot, but the tackle is pretty close to the cylinder heads down there.
I'm still diggin' it.

Big Dave
15th February 2010, 21:37
Well it does feel slow compared to a M109. It's a lazy 1300 against a moderately stonkin' 1800.
Buuut, then, really a Rocket III or a $75K Harley are about the only cruisers that don't feel slow compared to a 109.
Fury has sensible power for the available ground clearance.

It's a clean looking kit.
Interesting the comments re plastic - also a bitch in US magazines. Personally you cannot tell if it is plastic, steel or carbon-fibre when it is well formed and painted until you give it the old finger tap. Plastic is a lot lighter, but that does not appear to be a consideration to the cruiser crowd.
I'm still waiting for the company who builds a light, stripped down cruiser to really take proper advantage of the V twin grunt.

Just quietly - if it had a Harley Davidson badge on it you'd all be creaming over it ........................ be honest now, you know you would be.
Personally it's biggest failing will be the HD Sportster - starting at $13k for a 883 iron, for 'the real thing' if you like.
As a forward thinking man (well sometimes) I'm thinking there will be a excess of Sportsters on Trademe in 3-5 years that are cheap as a old Jap cruiser, as the HD dealers will only be offering crap trades on the Sporty when you want that big-block. That's when I'll be looking for my donor bike for my next project.
Insert most evil laughter here.

But no, they were full-size shots of a cheap, plastic-looking Commie Pinko knock-off of a real bike.

Too fuckin right. So many posers want the look, the style and the sound but they are such cheap-arses they go for the gay knock-offs. Why did Honda make the Fury? Coz that style of bike is so popular in the real world, that's why. The japs didn't come up with choppers, they copied them. Why the fuck don't NZ bike magazines grow some balls and do a write up on a Big Bear, a Ness or a West Coast Choppers ride? I'll tell you why; it's because those brands dont grease their palms. There are plenty of better customs (mass produced) that would whip the Fury's arse hands down.

How the hell can any mass produced bike be a custom? :weird:
Harley don't own the chopper look. Jesus, the whole chopper thing started 'cos people were unhappy with the standard mainstream stuff and rebelled against it. To see people worshipping Harley as a result is laughable.
It would interesting to see a road test comparison between say a Big Bear Bear Bones and the Honda Fury (despite the BB being 30% more expensive), but I wonder if you'd be ready for the result......

How can a mass-produced bike be a custom? Not sure, ask Honda. I'm not a kit bike fan but there are many variables when choosing your kit so I guess there's an element of 'custom' in that.
I didn't once use the word 'Harley' and when it comes to Big Bear motorcycles and Hondas there IS no comparison. :bleh: That's like comparing stick-on tattoos to the real thing, Hyundai to Cadillac or comparing having a root to masturbation.

it'll always lack the soul of a scratch built chopper.
I've never seen a chopped bike I'd want for a wart on my arse.
Then there's OCC, they just walk around a supermarket loading boxes into trolleys. No "soul" there.
If I wanted a "chopper" that'd be the one. I watched on Friday at the launch and there were definitely guys interested in it. What's more they looked like they could likely muster the readies.

Blah blah blah - I'm Mr Hard Case.
Said all along that if 'street cred' is your goal then an off the shelf Custom ain't going to get it for you. (It would be quite amusing seeing one ridden in to the fight club.)
That all comes from hours in the shed, skinning knuckles and putting in the yards - we all know that.
I spent 12 years keeping my T'bird pristine. Polished every inch of it regulary, customised and modded it heaps, won Best Hinckley at a few shows back in NSW.
Been there, done that, won the trophies.
Nowadays I would like a show bike occasionally, but I'm too busy dribbling on the internet, watching 6 Sports channels and riding test bikes to be arsed spending hours in a cold shed dicking around with a bike. (I have Factory mechanics set my suspension for me now dontchaknow).
I'd much rather just get on the thing and ride it. My Buell has no bright finish parts and only needs a wash with a bucket every 6 months to keep looking tidy eg.
So rain your diatribes on the off the shelf customs. Those that buy one are probably too busy enjoying riding it to give a toss.
And I quite liked the Fury. It's a nice looking, easy riding (intended) motorcycle. I wouldn't have the logo tattooed anywhere though.
Maybe it's the difference between a motorcycle and a 'lifestyle'.

Marketing.
Whatever you take on the big HD you have to give it to their marketing dept. The image (lifestyle if you prefer) bikes (if you are still smarting from a test ride pre evo engines, do yourself a favour and try a new one) and a dump-truck load of bling is all available at your local dealer.
Triumph are getting smart and offering goodies in their catalogue, good stuff too by respected partner brands like arrow exhusts etc.
Back to the Iron - cheap as a Jap cruiser but a true Harley. Sure your big-block mates may tell you it's a girls bike, but shit it is still a Harley, and those bikini clad hotties at the party don't know the difference between a small or big block (you may have trouble if you are small elsewhere though ....).
And HD know once you have purchased the base bike that you need some bling ....... then maybe some SE bits and fuck it, a 1200cc big bore kit will make it go better. This is fitted just before you trade it up for the big block ........ and the cycle starts again.
Rather like modern sports bikes with some - gotta have the latest GSXR, CBR etc and lolly-cake coloured leathers, 2011 Moto GP helmet, $1100 slip on muffler etc.
So I suspect there will not be many Honda Shadows, Suzuki C90, Kawasaki Vulcans sold if HD keep their Sportsters keenly priced and sharply styled as the new batch of Iron, Nightsters etc.
At those prices the days of starting your cruiser passion on a Jap cruiser before going whole Hog (ha ha get it) are gone.
Big Dave -
i do have a serious question for the magazine.
I may be wrong but I do not recall a multi bike comparison between say the big block cruisers of HD and the Japanese companies or even the Shadow, Suzuki, Sportster combo. Harleys in magazines are always compared to, well Harleys ..... like they are their own special identity. And maybe they are, I'm just curious as to whether or not it is intentional or not.
I subscribed to a American cruiser magazine a few years back and they did the same - comparison tests between say 4 Japanese bikes then a month later four models of Harleys.
And maybe that is the way it is, just reading this thread is evident that the HD boys don't give rats-arse about any other cruiser, consequently probably don't want to read about it either.

Cheers for that - Interesting about Aus - yeah - according to my press releases it's only available in NZ.
In fact - i just got this:
The first of the Harley-DavidsonTri Glide Ultra Classic motorcycles will roll into Christchurch, New Zealand from tomorrow, Thursday 18 February and we’re inviting you down to be one of the first in New Zealand to trial.
The three-wheel motorcycle is truly an innovative design and will be unique to New Zealand Harley-Davidson dealerships from early 2010.
Only available in New Zealand, the new Tri Glide gives riders a select riding experience on a sleek and stylish new machine. Two wheels in the back and one in the front make this design ideal for comfort and convenience without throwing away the traditional Harley motorcycle experience.
There will two Trikes available all day tomorrow and Friday morning until Midday for exclusive trial runs. If you cannot commit to either of these days you may be able to arrange additional times to trial the Trike with a member of the Harley-Davidson team on site.
For more information on the 20th annual NZ HOG Rally go to http://www.nzhogrally2010.co.nz/

One of those fancy HD trikes has been parked outside Rolling Thunder for at least a week now, available for demo rides I believe. In black (probably called Midnight Passion) of course. It is a good looking kit for a big touring trike.
Very Harley – even the taillights on each rear fender look like the bike ones.
I wonder what it rides like ……..
50 something K I think, which for a fully equipped factory trike with all the backing is probably pretty good value if that’s you thing.
And best of all, you don’t get that weird Harley feeling of your bike falling over when you put the stand down!

When you guys ride a bike that makes more horsepower than decibels, doesn't have twin shocks and doesn't use world war two technology then we may start listening to you .
Like the steam train those days are gone get used to it there's no use looking back.!
Nowadays we can have a bike like the fury which is Jap reliable (probably like your car,of course unless you drive one of the amazing yank cars that have taken the world by storm and everyone nowadays drives).Gee the likes of Toyota,Mazda,Nissan, etc etc,etc must be shitting themselves worrying about the quality of American vehicles, that is threatening to take over the world.
Our true roots in motorcycling actually belong with Triumph.Bsa etc.

Looks like a 'nice' wee Honda.
What's wrong with the Fury, nothing until the 2011 one comes out.
I don't think many old school bikers will be trading their Harley's on one of these. They might sell a few in Japland but not here.
Historically the term chopper came about when riders after WW2, many who were returned service men, modified their bikes for performance reasons. They chopped off all the unnecessary bits and turned them into race bikes. The commercial custom ride thing came about much latter probably driven by the RUB's.

Had a look at the Fury yesterday. Looks better in the flesh. Few things I didn't like - wheels should be chrome. Some of the finishing was a little poor - bif fugly frame welds and "cable ties". Overall tho I thought it looked quite nice. But I won't be trading Bob for one.
P.S. I have nothing against ANY brand of bike - I choose to ride a Harley even tho it is antiquated technology, not the best handling, not the fastest etc. etc. - It has SOUL tho!

It took a little bit to get use to the front end as my bike is quite nimble for a cruiser[vn900 custom] but i found it a good rideing bike and if you just wanted to cruise you could take all the corners with ease and i have riden with a lot of bikes especially cruisers that make you think about every bend in the road but you wouldn,t want to get carried away with the Fury as its not really made for corners. What suprised me tho was how soft the motor was it,s got plenty of torgue and sounds great with the Cobras on it but when it came to top gear rollon it felt pretty pedestrian in fact my 900 feels much more grunty ,so i was a little disappointed in its grunt seeing as i have ridden with plenty of 1300 vtx,s and the Fury,s fuel injected ,any how it handles better than i expected and you could ride it any where as it is good on the road the brakes and suspension seem fine, thats my impression cheers L J

im not a cruiser fanatic however id go for the new 48 (if it had a bigger tank than 8ltrs), or a crossbones. not really a honda, for a cruiser, its about the attitude for me, and even though id feel like a dork dressing up with my open face bug catching helmet and leathers, I've been told riding a harley cant be beat.
All the reviews about the fury just dont sell it to me, and the price is too high i reckon.

saw one in the flesh last weekend
I was impressed and I liked it which is more than I can say about the current crop of fashion collectables from HD
Harly should reintroduce the 84 softail complete with 4 speed gear box, kick start and evo motor

Too expensive, a Triumph Thunderbird is the same price...a no brainer. A 109 is 4K cheaper and will give you the attitude if you want it.
