I have a cordura winter jacket but it's getting more than a little on the warm side at the moment so I need something a little cooler. I'm on a tight budget so can only spend about 350 - 400 bucks. 400 would be my absolute max.

99% of my riding is commuting through Auckland so don't need anything too flash. I've looked at a few brands but just can't tell if I'm gonna boil in them or not so I thought I would ask for ideas here.

Cheers.

There is a cheaper Alpinestars textile jacket... not sure of it's model name... about $300.00 if I recall
I'll check in NPMC for you tomorrow....

Just bought a RevIT "Air" Jacket, mesh all over , knox armour in knees and shoulders - foam in the back, rear zip / belt loop etc. Really like the jacket, and was $250 at Motomail. Actually weird the 1st few times riding with it as the air flow is incredible.

I've got a Shift Airborne jacket, but they're a little hard to find now, though they are really coooooool:cold:

I'm a bit on the small side for the one on trademe, what dya reckon on the mesh jackets. I have no idea how strong they are so don't know how well they would hold up.

While the mesh is very cool and has armour, I can honestly say I wouldn't like to test it on the road surface. They are what they are and there's not a lot to them.

What size jacket do you need, GOONR?

I've got a Ixon Player jacket at the mo in small and that is a nice fit, better with the winter lining in but still good without it.

I have the Spool Jacket & Pants for work and I have come off onto road wearing it.

Very good. Only minor tears. I can vouch for the mesh keeping you nice and cool.

It was upstairs, I tried on the rjays mesh jacket and didnt like the fit, bit bunched up etc. It did come with a waterproof liner though, and it was cheaper than the Revit by $50.

I just wish I had a mesh helmet now (joking) :D

Hey that sounds really interesting. Does it say what standard is was manufactured to, or anything about how long you can slide in it before wearing through?

I regularly ride in Auckland commuter traffic as well. Had to come home a couple of times at lunchtime this week because my clothes were wet through with sweat.

I primarily wear a leather jacket, and it has air ventilation vents (which I have open), but it still cooks me at this time of the year.

I don't know if someone has already mentioned it but I have an RJay summer jacked (which comes with waterproof lining) and it was great. It's so light and so comfortable. Proably not ideal for a high speed accident tho.
But you know what the best part is? It's only $100 at MotoMail.

It's this one here. http://www.motomail.co.nz/eStore/Style/RJJKTOCTANE.aspx. Urban camo design looks cool.

Note: Price has gone up. Still within your budget.

Looked at those, I've been speaking to Katman about DriRider. He gave me a good price but Quasievil made me an offer that I couldn't refuse. If I hadn't had that offer Katman would have had my $$'s.

Was it a really sharp price from Katman? Last thing I got from him was Kat crap

If I had the money I would buy one, friggen sweltering up this way at the moment. I donned my trusty leather jacket today. Maha pillioned me down to Puhoi for lunch. I have not worn it for too many to name years, it did not fit. I could not bear my normal jacket today, so I gave the leather a go and :D the zip met and did up :Punk:

Yup good price from Katman, cheaper than I have seen anywhere else by quite a margin.

I've been saying for a while now that I need a cooler jacket than the one that I've got. Commuting round Auckland just ain't fun in this heat with a jacket that doesn't have any air flow.

I bought a Teknic Freeway which I wear all year round. It's absolutely 110% waterproof (proven that in some horrific Wellington downpours). It's got removable thermal lining. But the bonus is that it has 4 air vents in front and 1 in the back that can be opened in summer.

It's not too bad price wise but if you want 1 jacket that's suitable for all seasons then it's hard to beat this... plus it's got heaps of excellent armour !

Quasi,

The jacket arrived today, I haven't road tested it yet (only just got home and it's beer time) but first impressions are very good, well made and it has more armour than my other jacket. I'll let ya know how I get on with it.

Cheers for the deal :2thumbsup

They hold up alright in a tumble, i wouldnt like to slide far in one tho...
Just wear a tshirt and don't crash?

I can recommend the RevIt Air Mesh jacket too, with its weather proof inner liner (very light rain only tho) and zip in vest for a bit extra warmth it is pretty good. Pretty safe option too with the built-in soft armour.

It doesn't keep out the cold so my very old Leather Bomber jacket is used more for dry Autumn/Spring riding weather I don't want the heavy winter coat on.
