Hey all, first time poster here long time browser.

I've recently found a nice Kawasaki GPX250 in Christchurch for 2000, i'm currently looking for cheap freighting from there to Auckland, was hoping any of you guys would know some cheap options hopefully below 400.

it seems like for transport you get what you pay for: do a search on TRanspro for example. Ive used Biketranz and been happy but will be more than $400. But not much more in the context of your $2000 investment. No way could you fly down and ride back for that money.

Thanks i'll have a look, i may have to suck it up and pay the extra 400.

I'd probably ride it if you payed for petrol, ferry and flight back. I have relatives in Welly and Auckland so accomodation wouldn't be a prob. Wouldn't thrash the thing either. I ride a 91 GSXR750 most of the time. Think about it.

Auckland to Christchurch - $59 one way (Grab a seat)
Christchurch to Picton 336 kms
Ferry ticket - $120
Wellybums to Aucks 492 kms

18 litre tank isn't it? - 3.9 litre per 100 km. Kms = 828ish. So it's just under 3 tanks of gas depending how much you fang it - Petrol = $1.799 per litre depending on the day...but lets just say $98 in petrol

$4.50 per pie, $5 for two bottles of V

= A TOTAL COST OF FUCK LOADS OF FUN :D

Your welcome

I bought a GPX250 from Hamilton and rode it up to Auckland, my first time riding after my basic handling skills test.
Ended up braking too hard on the motorway in the wet, losing the front and skidding down the motorway.
Ripped up all my gear, sprained my ankle, few bruises and things but yeah I was fine.

But Christchurch to Auckland YEAH DO IT. :bleh:
(Your GPX won't be as shit as mine was back then though, front tyre was shit, the front suspension was thoroughly shagged and dived like a motherfucker. I've spent money on it and now it's far better than stock. ;))

I really wish i could follow stirts plan, sadly work doesn't allow me to, in other news i'm becoming a bit paranoid of this bike cause the deal is a bit too good to be true.

its a LONG day though. and if its a work day, and you have holidays then its an overnight stay somewhere. Sure, its an adventure, but might not be practical.

say theres a flight that gets you into Churchur at 7 am: youd need to be at the airport by say 5.30 depending on where you live (hint: dont check baggage), so youve got to get there (bus, taxi, friend credits) and the flight is an hour long. by the time you get from chur chur airport to the dudes house, uplift the bike and generally faff about you are leaving CHC at 8.30. figure 4 hours to Picton, jump on a fairy. Youve probably missed the midday sailing so say the 2pm one (if there is one). three hours there, Wellington at 5pm, then you have to do another 500 k, so at minimum another 8 hours. From memory Waiouru is open all night, but even in summer its not warm. I reckon thats a 20 hour day. Not much fun.

Plus you've just done 850km on a GPX250 all on state highway 1. Yay.

If you want me to pick it up and store it in my locked garage, pending pickup, I am happy to do that. You have to organise the payment, clear the title (www.ppsr.govt.nz) and insurance, change of ownership n stuff though.

More worried about the bike itself than the actual pick up, it's that it currently has no wof, expired 3 months ago, and licencing expired 8 months (although he's willing to pay the backdraft for it) but he's a bit reluctant to put a warrent on it and insists we should, which just gives me a suspicion that there's a bit more wrong with the bike than he leads on.

Can he even pay the back rent on the rego without getting a current WOF?

Guess we'll be finding when/if i buy it.

Thought about asking for a 'bike relay'?....there will any amount of KBers that could/would ride Point A to Point B to Point C etc etc.

So has anyone you know and/or trust seen this bike in the flesh on your behalf? You best do that if your answer is no, and certainly before you part with your hard earned cash.

Yeah it's on trade me and we've got a friend who is going to look at it today, i was about to consider asking someone from here who's in christchurch to attend haha, cause i don't think my friend has any knowledge on bikes.

It been down on it RHS but nothing major by the looks, great buying at $2k.
But, that is less than 1/2 the price of the very same model in other areas?

Mihajlo
2nd February 2010, 15:39
Yeah the cosmetics we can fix easily, the bracket can also be fixed, i'm just worried if there's anything wrong with it internally.

Slyer

Looks pretty good provided it runs ok. Someone would need to take it for a ride to make sure the gearbox and clutch etc isn't mangled but generally these bikes are pretty good.
Note that the rear left exhaust hanger/pillion peg bracket is snapped in half and held together by some wire by the looks of it. I've got a spare one of these you can have if you want it. :)
Also, check the clutch cable and handlebars it looks like the left one might be bent a bit. Looks like it's been crashed more than once with damage on both sides.
Should be ok though, you can pick up a new tinted etc screen for $165 here http://www.godiva.co.nz/models.php?mk=9

I'd either make him get a WOF or sign some sort of agreement that if it isn't up to WOF standard he will pay to fix it etc.
Let me know if you ship it up I'll pop around and have a look see.

Yeah this is all stuff we gotta look at, and discuss before we buy hence why we have the mate coming down for it.

I think your buying someone elses problem.

Just my opinion.

I think it's more hastle than the bike is probably really worth, to be frank.

Good luck though mate.

Yer. </tenchar>

This Guy is a complete F*#K Tard! Hit buy now and said he would pick up in a week. Then got his mate to check it out, his mate was happy with the bike and said he would get back to me. No Reply until i sent several txts.Trader doesn't have his motorbike licence, complete dreamer! His excuse for not buying in the end was "party is no longer interested". All traders take note i would not deal with this nutcase again. LUKE is a TIME WASTER BEWARE!

bluebridge ferries do a lyttleton to wellington service, $180, that'll save a lot of time then get to wellington via plane or overnight train and ride it back from there..., or get a quote to do the wellington to auckland bit from bike transport folk, the combo might be cheaper,

Mihajlo
2nd February 2010, 17:37
Well i got work off early just to come back here haha, and i've just read the feedback.

Mihajlo
2nd February 2010, 18:06
Welp, we aren't going to buy anymore, turns out the frame is bent on the bike and it's a lot worse than advertised, time to go look at a yamaha zeal haha

HenryDorsetCase
2nd February 2010, 18:24
The lesson is: if it sounds too good to be true, its not true usually.

I think you made the right call. For two grand I should buy it, strip it, get it straightened, and flick it on. Except of course for the time effort and endergy involved in doing so.

When I get my bikes, I use Biketranz. Whats a extra $80 or so to ensure your bike gets there in one peice and safely? Some people look for the cheapest option. the frieght might be cheaper with certain companys but then when you add the price of repairs to paint and panel it costs more in the long run! A lot cheaper then the days off work it takes to go get it yourself!

Yeah as someone who was severely fucked around by a 'transpro't company, I can give you some advice. Buy something locally.

The uncertainty around the seller, the uncertainty while it's in transit and the fact that you generally don't see the bike before you buy it add up to too much risk. If you're buying from a well known KB member you might be alright but not trademe.

Spend an extra $500-1000 and get the same thing in AKL.
