I'm a wannabe, passed my BHS and booked my theory test. So I'm looking at bikes in dealers and on the nett.

My question is: Do sellers get those prices they advertise on TradeMe? I see some sort of trend that auction prices are a fair bit lower than set prices. How much below a set price is the average seller prepared to take.

Take the Honda Magna VT250 advertised on TradeMe with 16,300 kms under it's belt. The seller is asking for an opening bid of $4500.

Do sellers who set prices accept $1000 below their set price, $500, or what?

Just asking for generalisations or personal experiences.

Usually $500 or thereabouts. Anything over that much means the seller has to be pretty desperate. Usually expect to be able to take $2-500 off depending on how good you can talk smack.

if your looking for a bike buy mine! but on your subject i have noticed that trend aswell, however as to how far below they will go i guess that would depend on the person selling the bike.

I've just seen a couple of dealers drop their prices for bikes on TradeMe.

A 1994 Suzuki GZ250 Marauder with 8,500 km on the clock has dropped from $3195 to $2990 - if I wasn't considering the ongoing health of my kidneys I's probably jump at that.

Then there's a Hyosung GV250 which has just dropped $500 in the last day or so, but it's been on the net for several months now and the dealer is probably prepared to cut his loses.

Bid......
bid low and see what happens...
you will get a fair few people that won't accept your bid,
but i bet you at least one off them will.......

I've just lost an auction on TradeMe for a 2007 Suzuki Intruder VL250 with 6000 km on the clock. It was for sale in Wellington and I'm in Tauranga so it would have cost me an extra $200 to transport it up, and I let it go for $3760. So we know the current going price for 2007 Suzuki Intruders now, don't we.
