Is this a common thing for bikes? I ask this because I saw this on Trademe and never realised you can do this to bikes

I sort of understand the concept on how they work on cars but would this be a bit dngerous on bikes if you suddenly need to take evasive action?

Looks like a throttle lock. I believe they are a basic over centre clamp and released mechanically by actuation of the brake lever. Totally not a true cruise control which regulates speed by adjusting throttle.

You're better off with a throttle palm rocker.

Goldwing has cruise control as standard equipment, Touch any brakes or roll throttle off and it disengages, easy as not dangerous.

No issues if you need to change the throttle setting if in a situation that requires it. Simply grab throttle and close/open as needed.

A simple friction system is used.

A pair of vice grips work well, just don't squeeze them up to hard or the throttle goes oval....
A must have accessory for kamikaze peak hour motorway filtering

must be true dun seen it on the intaweb

ive often wished for some sort of cruise control when travelling long distance at one speed. [ie, foxton straights]

Have used the electronic cruise control an a Harley Ultra, Victory Vision and a Wing, It has uses. Canterbury or Hauraki plains it's quite a good thing. Takaka Hill it ain't.

Mechanical Throttle locks I don't like in any circumstances. Nor wrist rockers.

Got electronic cruise control on my King.
Turns off when you touch the brakes or physically close the throttle.
Use it a bit in Canterbury, think actually now that ABS would be more usefull.

Gees - that would have been handy on my poor wee 250cc bike on my North Island Road Trip. I got RSI in my writst from being on full throttle for 5 hours of riding (bike was barely getting to 100k up slight hills, and with any wind). Now my wrist is really sort. Left hand was fine, every so often I could just shake it off, but not the right one. If I lifted my hand off the excellerator once I lost any momentum that the bike had spent 5 minutes gaining! Quite funny actually.

Mmmm cruise control - sounds dreamy.
