View Full Version : Got Australia ?
ok, im moving to australia soon ( gn 250 is for sale if it tickles anyones fancy, 91 sexy condition 18500k's ) and it has come to my attention how god awful their state system is, ive looked through all sorts of web pages etc and its so muddled up, different state to state etc.
im moving to cairns and i think i know what i have to do to convert licence etc, but can anyone tell me about rego and warrents and explain limit of bike i can ride on whatever my learners converts to there?
just thought it'd be easier to ask, maybe someone knows straight off all the bits i need, its getting a bit to cold to be workin early mornings outside and im keen on warmer conditions ;)
plan is to buy a cheap potsy bike over there to get to and from work ( when i find some over there -_o ) and save for trip around aus coastal on a brand new bike :ride: - havent decided what yet thou, will be test riding plenty, till then its save save save
any help is appreciated, tips, etc, all that jazz. kb

All I know bud is that your NZ licence is good for three months over there, and when you go for your Aussie one, I believe, if you have a full licence, that you just take a 100 question computer test, and if you pass they put a hole punch into your NZ licence and give you an Aussie one.

Try this link. It reputadely tells you about overseas licence transfers:

Just had a quick squiz at the site.
Looks like you have 3 months to transfer from permanent residency.
It will cost you $15.90 to take the written test; 30 general questions & 5 motorcycle questions.
Plus: "Special note: If you are a New Zealand licence holder, you are not required to undertake a practical driving test if you have a current New Zealand provisional or open licence within the last five years for the same class applied for".
Hope this helps.

Ahhhh FNQ.... rego expensive... fuel cheap... mandatory insurance (no rego without it) yearly roadworthiness checks, excellent wet season... a bastard of a place for a hangover.... the road to Kuranda is one you will want to ride over and over.... can I come???
just kidding... I lived there for near 2 years.... I love it... best place in Oz... porns a bit hard to come by tho... (was the state gubmints fault in the 80's)
I reccomend the Pier Tav, trinity wharf hotel and the underdog......

1 year and after having been disqualified for driving 3 times i finally got my license in QLD, its a simple paper thing, you will have to study their road code before sitting it...
