Hi, just got myself a 97 vtr1000f two weeks ago. now very happy with it seems to be very reliable. my question is, my seat gets very warm from the motor (which is anoying on a hot day) lol exspecially around the 50km speed zones, on the highway not so bad as air flow is greater. i know the seat is close to the v twin motor, is this normal for the vtr seat to get warm from the motor..also the frame on the side of motor gets hot from motor is this normal. the temperture gauge reads quarter on the highway which is all good. today it read near halfway around 50km zones. theres water in the coolant bottle e.t.c so any vtr owners can help me out would put my mind at ease with my new bike cheers and happy riding :scooter:

No different to the similar Suzuki mate,things do indeed feel warm eh.Nice bike have fun.

Sounds standard... mine old vtr did get warm but didn't really worry to much about, main thing is to keep an eye on the operating temp

lol, year you think riding a bike would be real good way to cool down on a sunny day, sorta takes the fun out off riding getting real hot. mayby i should look into some cooler pants. i wear dri rider pants with the inside layer takin out. i never wear the inside layers even in winter as just makes you sweat.

Perforated leather is the answer fella,great for summer and all you need in the winter is a cheap pair of thermals underneath.

That sounds right. I have noticed with the hotter weather the temp getting to 2/3 in stop go traffic on motorway.

Try to keep above 3 000 rpm, it seems that the water pump is more effective above this.

Once clear of the traffic the temp comes down real quick to 1/3 ish during summer.

During winter it's usually below the 1/4 mark.

lucky you didn't get a Buell then, on hot days in slow traffic = roast nuts, well inside right leg.

A lot of the heat is from the rear header. The VTR (which I owned before my current bike) is at least better'n the VFR, which has two (2!) rear headers, and more enclosed bodywork, so it's a bitch in traffic in the summer. I've actually fitted a fan override switch to try to keep the temperature down a bit.
