Can I ask a question?

I have a V Strom 1000, long time since I have done any off road riding, have been up to the dams behind Shannon in a car, would it be worthwhile seeing how I go on your ride, or not?

You are more than welcome to tag along - we all ride at our own pace and normally just regroup at interesections etc.

Just be aware that in addition to riding up to the dams I was planning on exploring a side track which I hope leads towards Tokimaru - last time I tried it was a struggle on the klr as it got pretty lumpy.

cheers

Will bring the camera as well as I have a friend in OZ with a KLR so a pic of yours would be good, if you are bringing it.

Is it doable on a motard? and how long there and back? I started going up the other week, but realised I was running out of light and thought best to turn back

The surface gets a bit lumpier but less slipoery the further you go in - I think its about 20km to the end. the XT660X would be fine. Its a good ride

I went in there with a friend on Saturday. Yes, it was hot. We only went as far as the top dam. There were some quads playing in the dust above the dam - how much further can you ride?

On a KLR?

not very far....

Haha, I remember that even if my bike didn't get that far!

All fixed now, thanks to Freedom Suzuki in Palmy.

A new casting for the footpeg bracket would have been $175. They had one sitting round the workshop for less than a third.

Nothing wrong with riding over the dam, there was no sign saying you couldn't do it.

And the pic of the stuck KLR is going to my friend in OZ with the same model, with an appropriate comment.

Yeah, he's got an itchy right wrist when there's a camera around. Gives me plenty of entertainment.;)

I shouldn't say too much though, as I'm fairly sure he's got a couple of photos of me doing silly shit. :pinch:

That trip up Whariti was a challenge. It's quite steep and rutty in places. Wheel spinning all the way, as the surface was like talcom powder.

I've taken road bikes up in the past. It's just been graded, and was challenging with trailwings. Very hard to get forward momentum. Back wheel was just spinning all the way.

Yes... the wheelspin had EVERYTHING to do with trailwings and thick gravel....

Of course. It had absolutly nothing to do with twisting that round bit on the right end of the handle bar.:oi-grr:

The "non DOT, full knobby, get you through any shit" one is. The one on the rack was a bit worn, but too good to throw away.
Was a bit of a mission getting it out of there. Standing at teh back of the bike and lifting merely sent me deeper into the mud. Took two of us a lot of pushing and pulling before it came out.
