Does anyone else here do it?

Not trying to be a smart ass or nothing but today was riding along. Saw a cop ahead. Slowed down a tad and gave him a friendly wave. Was pleasantly surprised when he waved back at me. Tried again with the next plod I saw but no luck.

I wave to everybody

I received a friendly wave from a bikey cop, once. Reckon it was a wave and not a " pull over" gesture as he didn't give chase.

Yup,
If I'm out on the bike and see one on another bike, or in the street, then I will give them a wave.

After all they are just out doing their job, on what might not be such a great day.

The thing is if I see a Police car coming toward me, then I have a survival reaction to slow down, even though I'm most likely going under the posted speed limit....
Nope, sorry, as a rule, I don't wave at any cars, unless they have bikes on the trailer.....

The cops must love your Mr Whippy van. They'd be rude if they didn't wave back.

I wave to all bikes. If for no other reason than that i can't be arsed trying to figure out "should I wave to that one - oh, what about that one, um how about ...". Two wheels, under power , wave. So that includes bikie cops. On occasion, they wave back.

So many scooters and bikes here I only wave to the expats on ones as well as anyone on a big bike (500CC+ bikes here have a bright red license plate).

I only bikes I don't wave to is cruisers. They don't seem to like us sports bike riders.

If you are referring to cops on bikes............ yip, I wave to them. After all, they are a biker (job or not!), but a patrol car? You gotta be kidding! I'm sure they'd think I'd be up to no good - which i probably would be i.e slowing down in a hurry :killingme

Yeah. I give the bike cops a nod or a wave just like I do to any other biker. Four wheeled cops I'll give a wave to from time to time if I see them on the highway.

Wave at a cop and they'll think you're giving them the fingers!... good luck with that. Today I went out East... I got a waved at by a Harley rider! then got ignored by several sports bikes and a couple of dual sporters... and whats up with scooter riders.. they're fucken unfriendly! You'd think they'd be well pleased to have someone acknowledge them... Waving's over rated anyway.

Funny you say that I too have noticed that fewer people are waving these days. I wave to all - but lately, alot of other sportsbikers have not been reciprocal - very snobbish if you ask me. What happened to all bikers being happy and friendly to one another :wavey:

I don't wave to cops because they give me speeding tickets. I don't like them much. Having said that, if there was no one to enforce the speed limit there would be all sorts of knob-ends doing 200+kph, just because they could, and killing all sorts of innocent mot*e$fuck#rs. Like me.

And from what I've seen of an enforced 100kph limit I just hate to think what it would be like unenforced.

Also, I had to *555 a guy on Wednesday who couldn't keep left (I hate them all) and then overtook on the brow of a hill across a yellow line going into Murchison this week.

"Who you gonna' call, Knob-busters!" Someone has to police all the crazy shit that goes on. Otherwise it's mayhem and carnage and anarchy and blah, blah, blah........

Funnily enough I was leaving Shannon on Waitangi day (Read Passing through) and got pulled up
by the 5-0

Cop "Did you know that you are speeding?"
Me "If by speeding you mean the 70kph bullocks then yes, if you mean going faster
than 100kph then no"
Cop "OK then just wanted to see if you knew"

I lol'd inside, no ticket and a 15 minute chat about bikes and the bullock 70k rule.

Gave him a wave as I resumed my trek accelerating back to 100 and got one back.

Somedays you just get the nice ones

True; there was this day in 2002...........

Wave to cops? Yeah, whatever. There's a few I'd like to buy some flowers for though......to put on their grave.

now that's a tad bit harsh................. you could always say "they're just doing they're job, and you were the one in the wrong place at the wrong time"

Any cop on a bike gets a wave or nod - especially the one who sits at the top of Nelson St getting all the wankers who run the red/block the intersection of a morning.

Had a long chat about bikes and helmets with a bike cop on Queen St one lunchtime.

I suspect if you waved at a cop car, they'd suspect you were giving them a gesture.....

I was riding home the other day and two scooters started what looked like they were hailing me like a king so me being the smart ass that i am i just waved back with both hands. Next a car comes around the corner and gives me the old head lights so i finally clicked and slowed down to what i think is 40kms (speed o in miles) and then i saw the cheeky bugger (the cop) hiding in the bush with his radar so i waved and he had a chuckle to him self and waved back. Next time he shouldn't wear a bright blue uniform in a green flax bush :)
