View Full Version : Does anyone here ski or snowboard?

Okay so I've given up 100% on owning a cage and the rents wont let me use their cars to travel to and from the holy mountain of snow in the winter. Bussing or training is too boring/expensive.
So I was thinking, has anyone ridden to the snow carrying skis or a snowboard?
How would you carry it, are there mounts or something I can buy?
All help/info very much appreciated.

When I was working ski patrol, I used to get around on a adnoH 600 trailie - worked quite well on snow
I found the easiest way to carry skis was to have them vertically where the pillion would be. Tie the tips together and the heels to the pilion pegs, with boot & gear bag between.
Don't let them blardy keas near your seat or cables though...

Fuck that. You know how you get the shits about black ice, grit and the cold in a cage when you go to the snow?! Imagine that on a bike.........
It's not for me anyway.
I rode through the Desert Rd around July last year......and it was shit. Yes it was at night, but it was so cold if it was'nt for my heated grips I reckon I would'nt have made it (fucken seriously) There was'nt even any snow yet. Think about it.

Skis wouldn't be too abd I guess, but what about snowboard? I forgot to mention I snowboard. My bad.

I have been thinking about it quite seriously lately. I'll only travel in the day anyway and most likely hitch the the actual field from where I'm staying.

Used to do that around the mountain, getting from base to snow and to the two ski fields. Never had any problems with cops when they passed, no cops gave me a lift though :(

Black Ice and grit not an issue for you? I'd say on a RG150 it'll be a hellava trip!
I think the train would probably be quicker, and more fun. You can at least carry your stuff, and just get sauced on the way down.

Just tie it down like a spoiler on the back, more downforce for the rear :P

Snowboard should be easier than skis - i'd either strap it across the seat resting on panniers, or attach vertically it to a backpack

Probably your best bet IMHO. Used to do the same when I didn't feel like driving my cage up the hill, just get a ride to the base of the hill then stick me thumb out, plenty of people going up to the top and always got a ride. That and you aren't freezing cold by the time you get there.

I'm with you...fuck that! And I wasn't even considering the slippery surface. I was thinking of blasting along at 100k with a bloody big plank of wood acting like a sail. To me, that's just asking for trouble. In saying that, if you can get it to run along with you bike and not be exposed too much you might get away with it. Still, fuck that haha.
I was thinking of riding to the mt towards the end of the season last year (just for something different) but I was gonna get someone to take my kit.
@ enth, you got no snow bunny mates in Dorkland that can give you a lift? I would offer but you'd still have to make it down here and 95% of the time my car is full. And I'd say I'd make it up the hill very few times this season.

I'll probably end up giving all my stuff to someone to take it down and leave it there, hire a little space somewhere and then when the season is over ship it back up or something.
Used to, haven't been to the mountain in a couple of years so my snow bunny mates have sort of got lost in the post.

I'd just sort out a few roadtrips with other mates who DO have a car... Easiest option by far.

But not as fun as riding all the way there and back with just a small backpack.

Yeah there are a few places that offer storage. I remember hearing about someone that did that and hitch hiked down. Seems like a good plan.

Good luck riding up there in the middle of winter. Cars slipping and sliding, and you only have 2 wheels!

Saw something on TV once where they fitted a bracket to the side of the swingarm so you could slot a surfboard/snowboard in and carry it vertically. Not sure now whether it was a push bike and some surf dudes in Hawaii or a motorbike and that big bloke with a tin hat and moustache. Either way, I bet if you googled it you'd find something.
