Just after a bit on advice.
I have a 2003 RM 125 with TAG bars and tag triple clamp by the looks of things (sorry new to this)
Im wanting to get some bars that are a little higher. Any suggestions? Will ONLY tag bars fit or are there other brands to consider?
Cheers
Tim

Take the bars off, clutch them in one hand and wander into Cycletreads (Barrys Point road) and look through the pile of bars they have there, repeat at different bike shops until you find what you want....
You need to take your bars for comparison as there is a wide range of heights, widths and sweeps available and they all look the same without something to compare too.

If you just want more height there are bar risers available that will probably fit under your existing bars (cheaper too), measure the diameter of your bars at the mounting point, decide what height you want and see what you can find.

Ok have done some research and from what I can tell I have tag top clamp that holds 1 1/8 handlebars.
Ive been looking at the Pastrana Bend Pro Taper Bars.....?
Just want something higher so that when i stand up im not so bent over.

I have added some pics:
Now that ive taken the pad off, looks like i may have risers of some sort? WOuld like to get rid of these and get a higher bar maybe?

I have added the only pic i have that shows the bars. May be of no help but thought it might show what im talking about.

I have a set of renthal fat bars here that I fitted but didn't like. Were only on the bike for a few weeks.
Not sure of the bend, but it's definately taller than the YZ bend I am using now.
Price would be way better than treads I'm sure.

Looking at the Renthal site (http://www.renthal.com/File/product2d.asp?productid=0&tabtype=5&zone=&biketype=&manufacturer=&model=&bikedate=) I am guessing they are RC HIGH

If he has Fat Bar's and your's aren't then bear in mind that you will need to buy the bar mount kit to change this. Not a huge expense but something to factor in.
Remember also that the kit to change them will most likely bolt onto your existing bar mounts therefore raising the bar height again (although this is what you want it may start to get too high).
I can't really tell from the pics if those bar mounts are standard or risers but it doesn't really matter, if you want to go higher then risers will just aid in that.
Whatever you do, if you get new bars make sure the bend feels comfortable as well as the height.

A good option seeing as your new to it all might be to take your bike with you and go into a shop. Show them what you have and what your problem with it is. The auckland guys can advise you which shops are best (Scott from Mr Motorcycles seems to have a great rep). Someone from a shop with a bit of knowledge will be able to go over your options with you and tell you positives and negatives of everything as well as prices. Likewise Barty5's offer is a good one, he has sharp pricing and the knowledge to give you the advice you need.

Cool thanks for all the advice! Will look into all those ideas.
Have been doing a bit of resesarch and I think I like the look of the PRO TAPER PASTRANA FMX BARS.
Like has been said above I know its not just about the look, more worried about how they feel.

i have pastrana bars that I use for fmx... I take them off for mx or enduro as you tend to get headshake due to the height and the short width... and from my experience the rm's aren't the best for a stable front end with any bars. Having your hands up higher tends to wear you out a lot. The bars you have look pretty low... going from those to pastranas is quite a jump - the reason they are high and not very wide is to fit your legs between and around them. Im 6ft. But this is all based on my opinion and the type of riding I do.

Hmm yeah they are quite a bit higher arent they. I think there is a TAG double Hi bar, that i believe will fit straight on my mount and be in between what i have and the pastrana.

You dont have to get tags. Any fatbars will fit on those mounts.

Henry/Reed 800 92 57
RC 800 77 55
Pastrana Race/RM Low 800 74 55
Pastrana FMX 775 121 55
Suz/KTM Factory 800 92 47
RM Mid/KW 800 99 54
Woods Lo 775 71 60
Woods Hi 775 95 62
CR Mid 800 82 57
CR Hi 800 95 60
KX Hi 800 108 56
YZ Hi 800 84 52
Uni Lo 800 71 55

These are figures from pro taper - Most brands do the same bars [i had sunline kx hi's a while back - Same name and shape, just diff. brand]
First number is total width, 2nd height and 3rd sweep

AH cool thanks for that, have measured my mount. From the very bottom where they sit on the top of the shock to the top is 65mm(about 35mm to bottom of the bars) and roughly the bar diameter is 1.2inches (assume is 1 1/8) height of bar looks to be around 60mm.
Would you suggest getting lower mounts and a higher bar, or a lightly lower bar and keep the higher mounts (maybe those mounts are normal height im not sure)

if theres nothing wrong with them why get new ones? All you gotta do now is decide approx how high you wanna go and choose off those figures above. I think pastrana fmx and kx hi's would be way to tall on those mounts though. 60mm is a bloody low bar - pastrana's are over double that!

Pro tapers are bloody good quality - my 2 sets have both had some big crashes and are still straight.

I only offered the fat bars because he has 1 1/8" mounts. Standard bars are 7/8" so fat bars are going to mount up easier as he'll need new risers for standard bars.

As to photos and measurement these are all available on the Renthal site, though they look a lot like any other handlebars - long round tube with a few bends here and there.

(The Stranger) how much were you wanting for your fat bars, why did you not use them?

$50.00?
Altered my seating position on the bike and consequently weight distribution and handling. I didn't like the change it made.
That plus the Renthal, although less flexible than the original 7/8 bars were still flexible. The Pro Tapers were more rigid.
