View Full Version : Double posts - lots more now?

Since the upgrade there seems to have been WAY more double-posts.

(This subjective opinion may be affected by what I've been drinking).

Has the double-click handling logic on the post submit button changed?

I had a lot of issues immediately following the upgrade (mostly while the indexes were being rebuilt), but the issue has gone away for me now.

Is it really that hard to not double click? The only thing on my computer that requires a double click are the desktop icons.

No but it does happen some times.

One suggestion I have is the ability to when you go in to edit your post there could be an option to just outright delete the post, so as you can take care of it yourself.

Please do tell, normally on other message boards I'm on you just go into edit and there's a button to delete the post. Didn't see that here.

But you also have to click the button, dot to the left of the screen too

You can fix that so they don't feel left out.

I highlighted this in the version thread. Been happening for about a week or so for me, has nothing to do with double clicking though... just sometimes happens!

Regardless of how careful I am, perhaps 1/4 of my posts come out as doubles. No I don't double-click anything. Using Chrome 5.0.307.7 beta on Ubuntu.

I bet you guys are kinda flat out at the moment. There seems to be lots of little things broken everywhere... mind you, chrome doesn't seem to like the dark zone.

I noticed when you quoted me earlier I got two notifications for the one quote post. Yours is the only one I have seen that happen so far. Not sure if that kind of info helps the techs at all?

It's there.

Not for me for some reason.

Come to think of it, just realized that (of course) I'm not a 'senior' member yet so that could be why I don't have the option.

For some people, yes. Have you not seen that lots of people double-click everything they see? (You and I know they are idiots and should be shot, but often forum software is written by more reasonable people who like to protect such users from themselves).

Besides, I may be wrong in my guess as to the cause, it may not be about double-clicking at all. I'm mostly just commenting on what I (seem to) have noticed... an increased number of double-posts by various people.

(Having said that, I'll double-click [Post Quick Reply] on purpose, to see if anything happens...)

I'm still getting 2 or 3 a day. I tag them "Duplicate Post" (in case anyone wants to look for them) and it seems to happen most often when someone else is posting at the same time in the same thread... sometimes, I just get a duplicate post. I single click, never double and just sit and wait for the browser to spring back into life...

I single click, never double and just sit and wait for the browser to spring back into life...That long wait thing usually signals that it is going to double-post on this attempt.

I wonder if the Ajax post mechanism doesn't have the proper locking, so it is unable to figure out if the retry is going to result in a double post.

There also appears to be a glitch within a post. Duplication of written text at the end of the top line is occurring.
