Granted it doesn't start until the 14th but anyways, the year of the tiger is upon us.

A whole week off work and plenty of food and booze for everyone to enjoy.

Time to get right fucking tanked, pig out and play mahjong.

Oh and honestly, if anyone has any questions regarding life in Taiwan or Chinese New Year in general don't hesitate to ask.

CHEERS :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Obviously I don't have a clue about Asia, but last I heard, China was pissed off at the US for doing arms deals with Taiwan, so if there is bad vibe between Taiwan and China, why do they celebrate Chinese New Year in Taiwan?

Touchy issue and hard to say one way is right or not. Majority of "Taiwanese" people are originally from the mainland, and while now a days most want the status quo or even to be fully recognized as an independent nation, it used to be that the ROC (Taiwan) was hoping to take the mainland back from the PRC (Stinkin' pinko "commies" in the mainland).

Heh we had a mahjong game on the computer, and the mrs liked to play, so I got into that a bit. Sometimes I would win but not often.

Ahhh well I imagine you were playing mahjong 'solitare'. No worries though, if you've ever played the game Rummikub you can play normal mahjong.

I was in China last Chinese new years. It was fucking epic! We need to have the sort of fireworks they have over here.

Everyone played mahjong i never understood it or even tried to understand it.

I wish I was back in Taiwan for Chinese New Years, all my relatives would give me money! Well... they used to... maybe not now that I'm older, haha.

Fireworks in Taiwan last year were a bit disapointing but mostly because of the economy. Still ain't great but won't know for sure until the sun goes down tonight...

As for mahjong it's fairly easy to learn but hard to master.

Where do most your relatives live? I could take your hong bao from them and deliver it personally to you ;)

Just sat down for some family friendly mahjong and lost about 25 NZ$. More proof that I shouldn't gamble.
