So there I was on the fandamily holiday feeling a bit out of sorts (driving a stationwagon over the Takaka hill will do that to you). So we're staying at this house up a hill in Pohara a few k out of Takaka & these vans & trailers with twinshock dirtbikes start going past. Hmm. So after a few family activities & looking after the boy I get the time to wander like 10min up the road to the farm where the event was being held.

OK I was pretty late but got there just in time for the last race lining up on a sweltering day.

I was frothing at the bit, what great fun it looked. Amongst the 70/80s XRs, and surprising amount of TT500s were Elsinores with fox shocks, DG heads etc, a Husky I think, several RMs & a particularly tasty YZ400. And everything in between, PE, DTs, TSs old Brit iron, mongrel hybrids.

Rolling scrambles Grass track, gee I think I could run midpack in there (. . . well on my modern bike). I saw 3 models I used to own & a couple mates had. Gee I must be getting old. I left imagining trawling for a YZ250, or maybe an RM would be easier to find. . . I'm tuning it in my head & thinking of finding the rules over suspension upgrades. Modern brake linings with longer plate levers. . .

By the time I'm back at the place though sanity has taken hold & I'd better finish the RG/RZ500 roadbike project & the two buckets & the Stinger resto + it will be time for some maintenance on the dirtbikes, heck I haven't been able to ride a dirtbike for a year, but should be able by mid year.

Ahh, dreams & not enough time or money.

Yeah, though you will note from my post all the bikes that were interesting to me are 2 strokes, the Old Thumpers event was obviously aimed at 4 bangers but inclusive of the racebikes.
