Got my name down for this - the weekend after I get back from a fortnight touring the North Island.
Should be trained up enough by then, with enough time for a bike service.
I see that there is now some choice over which route you can do on each day.

I'm very tempted to give it a go on a bike which really isn't designed for that sort of riding.

Y'eva hear of the DustyButt 1000 ? 1000k's, 80% gravel/dirt in under 24 hrs
It was done on 125cc bikes this year
I'm sure the little scorpio could do it, BUT, could you ?

Who of the regulars on this forum are riding the TT 2000 and what Flyers are you looking to do.
I am undertaking the Eastern route on day one and the Western on day 2. Having worked it through I think Bronze Acheiver is a reasonable and acheivable goal for me. On the first day I am looking to do the Inangahua and Belgrove Flyers and on the second day I will only need to do the Springs Junction Flyer.
For those who don't know what this is aboutfollow this linkhttp://www.tt2000.org/index.htm:woohoo:

:Oi: over here fellah>>>>> http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/118693-Tt2000

Went up to the powerhouse in the Cobb yesterday, another flyer, and the road wasn't flash, a bit of slumping in places and patches of pea gravel left over from last winter, had a couple of  moments.
I'll see how I go before deciding on any flyers, be happy just to finish @ this stage

Gixxer peter
21st February 2010, 13:15
Yep i'm going to give it a crack.
I going to do as much as the body will allow.
Gold would be nice but we will see.
If the weather holds it would be "fun"to try and prove them wrong ( "We believe it is virtually impossible you will be able to do all 14")I have estimated the time required to do all of it and i believe it is possible if you dont stop for meals fuel or photos , maybe they are right?? There is a lot of road works planned for the Marlborough area over the next few weeks, the Oyster Bay road is all marked up for resealing.
The important thing is to finish in one piece with a licence and i suppose to enjoy it.
"going for gold"???

I'll be in Christchurch at about mid- day on Friday. Will scope out the starting point at some stage on Frioday evening.
Have't yet worked out which rout I am doing on Saturday morning. The final choice will be determined by the weather forecast on Friday evening. It this stage I am leaning towards thw western route on Saturday returning by the eastern route on Sunday. My goal is Bronze acheiver. I have pretty much worked out which flyers I will do to acheive that goal with the least effort.

The long range forecast is for rain in the Westport - Karamea area saturday afternoon, so I'm leaning towards the eastern route on Saturday and the western on Sunday (and put up with all those cagers returning from the W&F festival)

Plenty of petrol stations, but maybe not as close as that. Particularly on sunday evening. If you stick to the main route you should be OK, but some of the flyers may test your fuel range a bit.

In Golden Downs, Nelson, a 44-year-old male motorcyclist died after a collision with another rider on Stock Road about 1pm yesterday.
The other rider - a 51-year-old Northland man - was flown to Nelson hospital with a suspected neck injury and concussion.
The men were participants in the TT2000 South Island motorcycle rally, a two-day, 2000km ride around the northern part of the island. The two men were riding on the same side of the road, when the following rider rode into the lead rider.
Police had not yet talked to the survivor of the crash, and were appealing for witnesses - particularly two motorcyclists heading the other way, on the other side of the road, around the time of the crash, Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne McCoy said.

Set start and end times each day and the route is set so you can do it with a 70kph average.

Sounds like they were doing the Belgrove clipon.

Bloody Hell. I left Belgrove pub at just after 1:00 pm and travelled down that road. I passed two bikes heading towards Belgrove, then another rider on his own. Obviously doing the Belgrove flyer but coming in from Top House rather than the main route. I didn't see any motorcycle accident, but did see the remains of a boat crash.

Em and I had a great trip. Got to bronze achievement in the flyers, I chose the Portage clip on during our second day which was a real challenge, well worth it for the points, but my arms hated me for it! The Bronze trophy looks great on the mantle peice, even if a few poxy pictures had to go to make room!
Would I do it again?? Definately Yes! Silver for me next year, and riding her own bike for Em next year! :)
Really sorry to hear about the accident, condolences to the family.

If you did this flyer on the Sunday you had to come in from Top house. I did this flyer and would have come through about half an hour earlier.

Awesome event, will be back next year to have another go.

Takaka Hill was incredible!!
Inangahua Junction, Not. I cocked up the corner and crashed. Can't figure out how I only broke a mirror, indicator and ripped the cowling off the bottom. I was lucky. Thanks to the motorcross guys that helped push the bike back up the bank.

My TT2000 Day ONE

I rode down to CHCH through the lightning and hail storm, i had to slow down because the hail stones were starting to hurt as they hit me, and then i stopped as the road was a couple of inches deep in hail and becoming quite slippery.
I was stopped on the top of a hill wondering if the spare 30 litres of fuel i was carrying would explode as i was stuck by lightning, never did find that out.
I stayed at a mates place, Johan, who i had talked in to this trip, he decided to do it on the goldwing just to make it a bit more of a challenge, the long staights would be more comfortable but some of the fliers would be a real test of riding skills.
We topped up our tanks just before start area only to find that some bikes were being let go well before 6:00am, we stayed untill the offical start time and took off to Kaikoura, a quick photo stop there (07:40) and off to Hamner and another 30 second stop for a photo (9:10).
We had alrteady planned to try and complete as many fliers as we could so another quick stop at Inangahua (11:00) and then Murcheson (11:32)..
I was leading and stuffed up at Kawatiri junction and ended up going around the flier in reverse adding time and milage to the run but it gave Johan a short break while i found my way back to him another very short stop (12:45) ..... now we are behind schedule...
My wife and father were tracking us on the "spidertracks" GPS tracker that i had borrow for the run and met us in Picton (14:36) as part of the pit crew schedule we had set up, they refueled the bike and removed all the extra fuel and other heavy un-needed stuff and cleaned visors while we had our first meal break, hot food provided by the pit crew.
Next stop oyster bay-- (15:17) i followed the gold wing in and watched it get lighter on every corner leaving behind bits of un nessesary metal work as it grounded on every bend , an incredable piece of riding, that thing must roll in at 400kg!!
We had decided to not just do the easy fliers, so next was Portage (16:36) I was really hurting by then cramping up trying to get as much fluid into me as i could, iso-tonic water from the camel pac on the go.
Okiwi (18:07) another one of the hard ones lots of loose gravel at the top of the hill.
Meet the pit crew at the bottom of the Whangamoas for a refuel and to load the exra fuel back on board that had been topped up and more food and drinks.
We where getting a bit worried by now as the run to Takaka was going to be hard work and if there were any holdups it would be a close run , we push hard and made Takaka (20:37) no stopping this time, it was going to be close , i had already scoped out the pit stop, which was lucky as we arrived with 4 minutes to spare (21:56), over 1200km ,an average speed of about 80Kmh.
Not bad when you think about that goldwing scraping its way through the sounds roads and the mad dash in the wrong direction to Belgrove.
Day two to come.

http://www.northernadvocate.co.nz/local/news/2000km-endurance-race-faces-cancellation-after-rid/3911348/

Sad day for Family of the rider up here, but they understand that he died doing what he loved best. From his Death Notice in today's Northern Advocate:
Only aged 44, he left this world abruptly around 2pm, Sunday March 14, 2010, Doing what he loved most - besides spending time with his daughters - riding motorcycles. In an accident while participating in a roadbike T2000 challenge, this was an endurance trip to the core, around parts of the South Island.
I hope that this does not see the shutting down of Rides (eg: The Grand Challenge) like this in NZ. My thoughts and sympathy goes out to he family up here.

My heartfelt condolenses to the family.

My Wife has been riding for just three years and managed to complete the TT2000 without a problem and she thorougly enjoyed it. This ride was easily achievable in the time allowed and done at legal road speeds , I truly hope it is not cancelled because of this accident
We all know the risks we face when we mount our bikes.
To the organisers of the TT2000, thank you for a well organised and such an awesome week end, Monie and i will be back to ride the TT again

Yea they guy was a little strange about us going anywhere near the thing for some reason, certainly wasnt happy when flynn opened the pannier to see how big the inside was. Shouldnt have had it in the showroom if he didnt want people to look at it.
Hampton Honda on the other hand were very accomodating, sorted out the wifes VFR headlight on the spot and ordered us in a helmet for her to try. Didnt buy the helmet unfortunatly...

My thoughts entirely, as meanie said, if they didn't want any one to look at it they should have had it out the back, it was on the show room floor, All I was doing was seeing if it was big enough to fit meanies favourite pillow in for the next TT:lol:

Seriously though, Congrats once again to Mike and team, I throughly enjoyed my time down there, my heartfelt condolences to the family or families involved in the accident.
I seriously hope this is run again, because as we all know, it's bound to happen cause we're all human after all.

My TT2000 day two.
The alarm when off moments after hopping into bed, got up and felt pretty crap, way to tired to ride the 1400Km that we had planned for the day, but what the hell , the pit crew made us bacon and eggs for brekkie and we are off.
There were quite a few blerry eyes at the start line .6:00am and we are off, first flying stop is Motueka (6:21) Johan set a cracking pace through the back roads of Mot on the goldwing and yes it was time for another flier and a reciept at Springs Junction (08:29) , paid an arm and a leg for fuel ($41 to fill up) and Johan got the jump on me on the road to Karamea , it was great to give the busa a bit of a wind up , fuel stop at Westport and then the run through to Karamea , loved that road apart from the gravel part way through, always a nice surprise on a bike with a few horses available at the back wheel, gentle with the throttle through there. Photo at Karamea (11:05), gave Denniston a miss , i wanted to do that one but the maths did not allow it, we wanted the gold.
A quick run through the coast and a photo stop at Punakiaki (13:21) no time to take in the sights got to keep moving, we are still on schedule when we hit BlackBall (14:03) and a pic outside the famous " formerly Blackball Hilton" some of the riders were stopped for lunch , wouldnt that be nice to have a break, next stop the pub at Ikamatua (14:33) some of the bikes were stopped there for a beer i looked longingly through the window, but we have only another 7 1/2 hours to go and 7 1/2 hours of road to travel.
the flier to Kopara village is a must , there was a busa coming out as we cruised in, we got the thumbs up from him as he passed , and after riding that flier i could see why he looked as tho he was enjoying himself, got to stretch the legs of the busa on this run , lets see the goldwing try and stay with me on this bit. (15:11).Getting worried about the gold , it is all or nothing we will risk a DNF to capture that gold.
The run past Hokatika was a nervious one we saw many coppers and the rader detector was paying for itself but of course it was still fingers crossed.
Lake Mahingapua (16:38) a quick refuel at Hokatika and found the toilets closed , damn it riding with my legs crossed now too.
Ran the gauntlet of the cop cars again and a photo at Kumara (17:09) The run through the Arthur pass was a quick one, love the way at Otira that the road was missing and replaced with a shingle pit.
Fuel stop at Springfield an we knew we where going to struggle to finish, We have pretty much dicided that it is every man for themselves at this point, dont wait for anything, run for Methven and then Geradine , the long way round on the inland route , but we could push it a bit through here, My father was tacking us on my "spidertacks " tracking system and decided we were buggered and would not make it, Methven (19:50) , a crunchie bar at Geradine to get a reciept (20:40), the shopkeeper asked me if i wanted the reciept as i ran in and out of the shop, i felt like yelling at him just give me the reciept and forget about the crunchie, the look on Johans face said it all, we were not going to make it???
I felt a bit bad as i flew past the goldwing to make my run for Rakaia, but we needed at least one of us to make it, i was suprised to see the gold wing put a burst of speed and match me in my sprint to the end.
Rakaia (21:10) and all fuel stations closed , Johan made his run towards town hoping to make Rolleston with the fuel he had, i threw 5 litres from my reserve in to the tank and made my run, The traffic was pretty heavy but i knew we could make it now , i slowed at Rolleston as the wing was refueling , aparently Johan coasted the last 50 meters with a dead empty tank, we arrived togeather with a whole heap of time left, 10 mins.
One of the 5 golds handed out to each of us.
15 hours and 50 minutes 1400 plus Km
