I've heard many stories over the years about Tridents throwing number 3 conrod, excuse being the points not firing correctly, adv/retard going out at high rev's, I had 1 blow on me as well, I also had trouble with the Adv/Ret prior to the blow
I have heard just as many owners swear by points, as those who swear by CDI, CDI peak around 6 th and start to miss.
I was told today by a Triumph mechanic, to leave my points in my other Tridents, he also owns a number of them and has never had a problem, his own everyday Rocket 3 has done over 100,000 miles and never played up.
I kinda of fell damned if I do, damned if I dont, he also enlightend me as to why they tend to blow, which is more due to condensation and water stuffing the jets, starving the cylinder of petrol, resulting in overheating and throwing a conrod.
Can any older Triumph owners share your opinions please, would be much appreciated.
