Sombody was telling me recently about a GPS mapping website where everybody posts their tracks. When I say 'everybody' I don't mean just motorcyclists, I mean the whole GPS community. Does anybody know what I'm talking about?

Keen to hear more about this as my enthusiasm for my website is seriously waning. c.h.r.i.s. mentioned this site http://www.mapmyride.com/ but not sure it is what you meant?

As long as the routes are routeable (auto or otherwise), else they are not that helpful.

Did you not find someone to take it on?

Nup. Had offers of help but not had time to fully explore them. Maybe when renovations done, CPENG done, yadda yadda etc.

Yeah that's nice but it's only for poncy iFones. The sort of thing I had in mind was a map to show tracks others had discovered and mapped as opposed to sharing their routes.

Maybe when renovations done,

They're never done, mate.

"house finished, man die" to quote the old chinese proverb

Especially not if Nick is anything like Paula

Its funny though - I do remember a stint of mad woman-driven redocorating just before arrival of the first kid...

At this stage routeable is the aim.

Obviously in the wrong thread mate, go away.

Actually, I took a closer look at EveryTrail Joe, it's not what I was after, but it's pretty good.

Here's a teaser look at Terawhiti Station... (not sure whether you need to register)...

The embedded view is below, click HERE (http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=501707&code=e56b69730e934f3e9c992f1a445b3a4f) for the browser view.

John if this is for the CCA only at this stage I can help. If you want a website to host your CCA GPS file so that others can download it or upload it directly to their GPS I'm happy to help via my website www.advroutes.org.nz. I could create a seperate page just for the CCA that you can link to with whatever images/data you want on it and the link to the upload page.

Ultimately and with a heap of help I want to turn my site in one that anybody can load data onto. I've just got to get those who can and are willing to help organised.

Personally I'm not sure that posting CCA files in public domain before the big day is such a good idea.
What's to stop every other Tom, Dick and Harry getting hold of the files and thinking they can just go in at their leisure, or even crash the CCA itself.

Eddie is the CCA's GPS man and I think we will email the route to those that want it in the week before the event.

In any case, you'll find the gates locked on most of the CCA properties.

Bah!
What's a mere gate to a 950 rider packing a portable hoist and some slings.

I'm sure we could have sorted something out but sounds like it is all under control.
