Hi Guys

I am doing a report on Wire Rope Barriers as part of a university project and need to find as much information and statistics on the barriers as possible. I have been trawling the internet and have found a few good sources of information but still require a bit more. I am not looking for articles etc but more in depth studies, crash barriers testing, comparisons with other crash barriers, impact data etc.

If any of the members on here have any good information could you please email it to me, if you wish. Thanks heaps. Oh and I believe there was a video of a computer simulation of a motorcyclist impacting a WRB that was posted on here a while ago. Any chance anyone knows where it is?

Regards

Try using the search function and type in "Cheesecutter".

You're welcome. :D

Send me a PM with your details and I'll send you the stuff I used last year on my Scigen 101 report. It has the crash data relating to motorcycles but in all honesty it's pretty basic and more or less says "you die" over X amount of speed. The thing is that the testing is all done with dummies or computer models, and the end outcome was that "more real world data required" - they need more motorcyclists to hit them in order to come up with some decent data.

My opinion in the end is that they are actually half decent, they just need to have a heavy duty plastic shroud installed so that you can't contact the wires or posts, this actually results in them being stronger, safer and requiring less maintenance in the long run. Also makes them easier to tidy up after a collision as there is less debris.

Monash did a report called "Motorcycle and Safety Barrier Crash-Testing: Feasibility Study" in 2000.

Just google that and the report is the first result you get. It covers all barrier types but is interesting reading anyway about how they test them and various comparisons.
