View Full Version : Bloody embarrassing!

The Rimutakas, great riding road aren't they? Except I just got stuck behind 5 Harley riders (yes I was in the car - couldn't help it this time) from half way up the Wellington side till outside of Featherston. These guys were going so slow that there was a que of cars (5 by the time we got to the bottom) behind them!

I was embarrassed to be a motorcyclist!

Look guys, it is fine that you were riding at a speed that you felt comfortable at, but hey, how about a little consideration for others. You had plenty of opportunity to let faster traffic through but you continued at your snail pace.

There were 5 of you. Two regos I noted were WNHOG and HOGWN. I would welcome these gentlemen's (and the other 3 for that matter) comments.

cheers

Tony

You've heard the song: "Ride to the conditions, on a Hog reduce your speed".

I think you'll find that they were the two Americans over here for the HOG rally we lent bikes to. They're being shown around by one of our locals...and I bet they were spooked by the hill!

Pete

Still should've moved over though of course!

I thought it was about some slow guys holding up traffic? Where does the "corporate cult" issue come in?

Pot and kettle...?

RF turns up defending HDs pretty much any time something even slightly negative about them is said.

It was a pretty light hearted jab in reply to what looked like a light hearted jab. Nothing to get your gruts in a bunch over.

It's pretty annoying when you get held up by any other road users.

You'd expect experienced bikers to be more considerate.

I really hate the selfish fuckwits who travel slowly and then refuse to pull over and let people past. It's those cunts who are the real cause of a lot of the fatalities on our roads today. Not that the government wants to hear about it.

Bullshit.
It's not the "slow cunts" that cause accidents. It's the inpatient motorists behind that make dangerous passing maneuvers or just approaching too hot that cause fatalities in this situation.

It's those slow people that should get fines, not people who are 'speeding' when there is little risk to themselves or anyone else.

Hmmmm? All this crap about HDs being slow and don't handle etc...it's the rider, not the bike.
I came over the hill yesterday and had a clear run up the UH side almost as far as the roadworks. I was near to scraping my pegs on most corners and not really hanging about. Not far behind was someone on a Harley. I kept looking for the rubberband tow rope...

RE5Guy
17th February 2010, 08:58
Well that got some "robust discussion" going, with a nice bit of Harley hatred thrown in.

Thanks for the info Pete on the Yanks. In retrospect I should have guessed they were WMCC bikes with those regos. I suppose they aren't used to corners at all, 8 lane freeways being more their thing.

I was in Queenstown doing the inaugural lap of the SI.

Stayed at the Park Royal where they have a bike garage.

There was an American couple on an Electraglide and a Road King, doing a tour, and we met outside the garage.

'Is that your Dewcati in there?' She asks - referring to my Triumph Trophy 1200 (the only bike in't shed).

'.....yes.'

'We're going to Milford Sound tomorrow - I hope the road isn't as twisty and horrible as it was today.'

Now some of you know what a have-a-chat I am.

(blinking)'......oh....well have a nice ride.'

Didn't really see anyone here seriously attacking HD's about being slow etc. In fact the OP was about the riders, exactly your point.

Slow riders linked with Harleys = you tell me.

There's slow riders on all types of bikes. Really in my experience it's typically the younger 'noob' crowd who think that only sportsbikes can go fast. Heck with some of our roads here in NZ a lot of the time a more 'all-rounder' type would be ultimately faster. And then on top of that, as you said, it mostly comes down to the rider. I was just pointing out that no one in this thread had seriously had a go at the abilities of HD's.
