I am trying to install new rear brakes into a GB500 but the things don't seem to want to go into the Hub.... there a fraction too thick?
Any ideas? Should i Sand/Grind them slightly to fit (might get the uneven though)??
ANy help much appreciated...
Can post here or email me dwhi026@gmail.com
The parts are from ThumperStuff and they are the right bits.
thanx in advance

Should never have to grind/sand them down to fit if they are the correct shoes. How do they look in the drum if you just sit them in ( without being attached to the backing plate). Have you actually removed the backing plate, ie disconnected the brake actuating cable (or rod, I can not recall the GB setup) If every thing is dis-attached from the backing plate it should go in snugly. Is there a bit of a lip on the outer edge of the drum? If so that will make it harder, the lip can be sanded/ scraped off to make it easier. If it still don't fit then I would suggest that the shoes are either incorrect or oversized.

wash the drum out. Or airblast (ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTION)
bloody things love to cake up the dust in there.

Has the cam been plated ? Or the fulcrum sleeved or wired? If so, remove same (may have to use thinner plates on the cam)
They should fit without sanding or grinding. Grinding shoes takes very specialised machinery, you can't do it by hand.
Check the drum for concentricity it may be oval.

Hi Guys
Thanx for the excellent replies.... the shoes are too big...too much metal on the CAM end even when i sit them in the drum they fit but bugger all room.
The drum was sand blasted...it's all neat and tidy...
i'll get some more Shoes and try them, for now i put the old ones back to get the beast on the road, i guess i could always get the old ones recond'd.
Anyway.. i learnt a bit from your replies...i think the CAM has been fattened out so will take a look at that next week when i get the wheel off again.
cheers all...MY GB is on the road...just wanting some good rear brakes the FIT

Hi All
As a last entry for this, i whipped off the Rear wheel a couple of nights ago and rechecked things as you had all mentioned here. Turned out the Cam was sleeved for the previous brakes, when removed the new set fitted easy... cheers all...i'm on the Road...only the Tank, Side Covers to paint and Engine to polish!
