Hi there,:wavey:

My name is marjolein (MJ) and I came to NZ a couple weeks ago. I have a honda magna v30 at home and haven't really the money (yet) to buy a bike here, but will definitely rent a bike here for a tour or whatever. It would be nice to meet some people around the area who would like to tour once in a while or so. I've been in Auckland (and NZ) almost a month, and have met some nice people, but I really miss my bike and love to rent a bike asap and explore the area, but mainly just enjoy riding ;)

oh and I ride a chopper, but I don't discriminate bikes, all is welcome  And most bikers my age ride racers anyway ;)
And btw; I'm a total chick when it comes to the technical part of bikes, I just like to ride and pimp a little bit, but mostly just ride (with or without an HDsound) :D So i'll apologize beforehand :sweatdrop

So looking forward to meet some nice bikers here :)

cheers,

MJ

Welcome indeed. Hope New Zealand treats you well, and that you can discover some of the wonderful roads it has to offer riders. I am only just discovering some of these myself. And like you, am a total chick that lacks the technical knowlege but know I am completely hooked on riding.

I live in Wellington. If you are ever down thie way, let me know and well find someone to rent you a bike and go for a ride.

All the best!

Hi MJ, Welcome to NZ
Im kiwi born but both my parents emigrated here years ago from Holland, most of my relatives still over there
If you venture south, look us up. I love the long distance touring as well. We got the four points coming up late in the year, then the southern cross in March next year, great excuse to ride from end to end of the country

Four points is four corners of the north island over two to three weeks
The southern cross is a little more challenging as it includes the bottom of the south island and one week time frame with check points having one hour envelope

Hey guys,

Thank you so much for the warm welkom :D
Too bad most of you bikers don't live in Auckland, I might go south but think it's kinda scary to do that by myself for the first time. I'm thinking about going to Raglan next weekend, I probably can handle that :D

Hiya, Marjo! :wavey:
Welcome to New Zealand and to Kiwi Biker.
My wife's parents are both Dutch (from Deurne), and we're off to the Netherlands in May for our second visit. :niceone: Whereabouts are you from?
By coincidence the company I work for has just taken over another company in the Netherlands and so I've had to do some translation work - good way to learn some Dutch.

Marjolein-MJ
19th February 2010, 18:15
Hey vifferman,

Say 'hi' to NL for me :bye: I'm originally from Den Helder, but lived the longest in Tiel and moved from Den Bosch to Auckland, since I studied there..
How can you 'by coincidence' take over another company? Must be a small company than :D How's the dutch going? I use google translate more often than I want to admit

There are a lot more Dutchmen in this country that a lot of people realise.
Welcome Marjolein.
I too am Dutch but have lived here for a long time, much longer that I have lived in the Netherlands. Orignally from Roermond then Swalmen in Limburg. Now in Wainuiomata near Wellington.
This is a wonderful country, much better suited to motorcycling than the Netherlands as you will no doubt find out.
Veel plezier, en als je ooit deze kant op komt dan zien we jou misschien nog wel eens.

Yes, if I ever have 9 hours of free time and no idea how to spend the small amount of money I don't make at my volunteerjob, then I will definitely come by!!!
No seriously, as much as I like the dutch (as a finishing touch, God created the dutch) right? ;) I've never driven a tour longer than 3 hours on my own, so unless I can tour with other bikes, we've probably got to meet halfway

Hi Marjolein

Welcome to NZ. Are you here to stay for a while, or just on holiday. My cousin came over for the first time iin her life at New Year, and it sounds like she is keen to come back and bring her older brother too. Its a very different place here though.

You will meet lots of great people here. Good to see you on your bike in your photo. And it doesn't matter what you ride, just that you do ride. If you ever come down to Hawkes Bay, let me know, and I can organise a ride, or at least offer you a place for to stay on your travels. :ride:

Hi Shirley,

Thank U! I'm on a working holiday visa, and I'm not sure how long I will stay (probably at the moment the ATM isn't giving me any more money ;) However, the plan is for approx 5 months so untill then, I'm trying to see as much as I can and try to meet a lot of nice new people.
Did you mean by 'came over' to NZ or NL? And it really doesn't matter what you ride or where you're from, because we all love to ride our bikes, right?!
I actually am thinking about touring, on my own, it's scary though, but I might do it :D So thank you, and if i'll go south/east I'll definitely let u know!

hi mj! again welcome along. Am not Dutch personally have have had lots of connections, through step family etc and love the people. Would love to visit one day!

I am in Wellington area, so if you head down this way, flick me a PM - would be happy to meet you somewhere along the way. I am a reasonable new rider but have ventured up to Taupo on the bike - about half way.

Take it easy on the roads and enjoy NZ!

Hi MJ,
Auckland Is the best place in NZ to live no contest. Thats why most of the popluation live here over anywhere else in NZ

Make sure you do some travelling because I have travelled around NZ a few times and love this country, Its is simply stunnig.

Auckland City Central not the prettiest but Auckland Region is beautiful and a outstanding area to live.

Has some awesome roads the need to be ridden. See you out there...

Where do you start? Head out West through Kumeu to Shelly Beach and stop there for an excellent coffee at the beachside cafe. Come back through Helensville to Kaukapakapa and go up SH 16 to Wellsford, then back down through SH1 through Warkworth to Orewa.

Next, come up to Albany and head out through Coatesville to Riverhead, turn right at the roundabout at the far end of Riverhead town as though heading towards Kumeu, but take the turn-off to the right on that sharp left-hand bend and go through the forest to Helensville, then head back through Kumeu to the Western Motorway.

Another good route is to head South to Papakura, go out through Clevedon to the coast and head South down this side of the Thames Estaury for Fish and Chips at Kaiawa, continuing down to the Thames road where you can turn right back to Auckland, or left to Thames and the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula, doing the 'world famous' Coro Loop.

Hey Edbear,

thanks for the routes! I´m trying to let google maps look for them, but I might just buy a paper one and will look where I ´strand´ I´ve decided to rent a bike this weekend and just drive, (preferably) not nearby mountains but I think that may be the best way , to just figure it out when I´m out there :)
I am writhing your routes down though :)

Hoi Marjolein, wanneer jij je motor koopt of huurt, kom maar een keertje met de SATNR troep mee — wij zullen je wel wat leuke ritjes laten zien.

And for you non-dutchies: When you get your bike, come on the SATNR (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/35572-South-Auckland-Thursday-Night-Ride) — we'll show you some nice lil' back roads around South Auckland. :niceone:

All right, I can just rent a VL250 Intruder with colemans suzuki. I was actually thinking about renting one for the weekend, but before I do that, the SATNR might be a very good idea!!
I saw this event allready, but going there alone, is for me still a little scary. DidJit, would you escort me? :D

The SATNR is on every Thursday night (unless it's raining a lot), and we leave from the Drury BP/Autobahn Café (http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=motordrome+service+area&sll=-37.087612,174.938189&sspn=0.005905,0.009645&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Motordrome+Service+Area,+Drury,+Auckland+211 3&ll=-37.087741,174.937835&spn=0.024477,0.038581&z=15&iwloc=A) at 630pm. And yeah, most Thursdays you'll see me there.

Hi Marjolein
Welcome to NZ and KB. I see that some folk have already been telling you their island is better than your island and another city is better than Auckland, thats normal for Kiwis, just a bit of fun, but some take it seriously.
The SATNR are pretty cool some go fast and some go slower but we all wait for the slower ones at the intersections. Theres really good roads to explore.

The SATNR is on every Thursday night (unless it's raining a lot).
Sorry, Didjit's prediction might come true this Thursday http://www.metservice.co.nz/national/maps-rain-radar/rain-radar-forecasts/rain-forecast-3-day:cry:. So this week may not be a good idea to rent a bike for the SATNR.
