Can anyone out there tell me for sure what the story is with gear damaged, made unuseable after an off and ACC,I seem to remember that if your gear was written off you can get it rpelaced by ACC as part of their rehabilitation.
Cheers in advance and yes I;ll take any amount of ribbing with a grain of salt, but please remember this is not my gear it was what my wife was wearing when she was brought down by one of many car parts strewn throughout the Hunuia gorge last week.
Luckily she was wearing full gear, Helmet, Written off.
Leather jacket,Scuffed to hell and gone but did it's job.
Gloves, torn but her hands and fingers are OK.
Cordura armoured trou, ripped through outer lining but saved her much more damage.
Boots, top worn off right hand one,LOL side! then but stopped her getting damaged feet.
Please you lot, wear it!
For sure if you are not wearing the gear, don't wave to me, cause I won't wave back, just knowing what might happen if you take you hand off and fall down!

I dont think ACC pay for gear anymore, probably better off claiming on contents policy.

Acc dont cover anything now

As mom said do it through your contents insurance, most case's they will do full replacement on your Helmet and devalue the rest of the gear depending on its age....

So would suggest that if your friendly with the bike shop you deal with get them to write a letter too your insurance backing up the condition of your gear and how well you looked after it(it worked for me)and they never asked for my old gear;),just speaking from experience and instead of my gear being devalued 40% I got a 90% payout and full helmet replacement

Yep, ACC stopped doing gear years ago. Insurance (contents for clothing) but possibly helmet on bike policy.

Check your bike insurance policy - I have gear cover on mine. Failing that contents.

Glad the Mrs isn't too banged up.

Not anymore. I dunno who you are with or when you claimed, but mine certainly was certainly devalued. Was'nt exactly old or cheap either. In fact it's one that was being worn by a GP rider at that present time.

How does assets care differ from home and contents? Is it the same?

dogsnbikes

yes its the same as contents and any other insurance, may not be the cheapest insurance out there but claims are settled fast and without stress, and the customer service has been great well thats been my experience

Claimed for my gear through State recently, full replacement on helmet and depreciation (quite a bit too) on the rest of it.

Hey bandit, cheers everyone, yes spkke with insurer, if I had checked the helmet box I'd have got $500.00, but I hadn't, never mind.
Spoke with AMI re contents, yes as stated they will cover, but it will all take a hit re devaluation/depreciation.
Still it's gotta be better than forking out all over again.
Thanks for the comments and advice people.

but it will all take a hit re devaluation/depreciation.

True story. Many years ago I was the victim of a knicker knicker. This low life used to go around the neighbourhood flogging female smalls off clothes lines. It took a little while before I actually noticed as this person was selective and only took the "nice" stuff if you get my drift. Also on the knicking list was any togs or excercise type clothing and the odd skirt. When I did a reccy of my smalls I had lost a considerable amount of really lovely stuff. Report to the cops, yes they have had other complaints Arggghhh! Anyway, make an insurance claim, have a replacement policy so should have been sweet.

But sadly no, depreciation had to be taken into account. I was offered 25% of the cost to replace my lovely stuff. I contacted them and asked the question, how do you work out depreciation on undies, is it per wear? or wash? or stain? No just we only pay 25% on undies. I managed to convince them that these undies were of the special occassion vaiety and were in as new condition at the time of theft, I got 75% in the end.

Made me laugh though, this poor guy at the claims department was really flustered and :o while attempting to justify the 25% pay out, reckon he gave me 75% to make me go away :D

Good luck with the cliam, do get a letter from someone that says the gear was immaculate, try to get a letter from the shop you bought it from too if you dont have the receipts.

Did you find the culprityet?

Not yet Mom, but I will!
LOL I can just imagine you not holding back on the poor bloke, but well done.
I've got the gear being priced up from the place I got it just a few short months ago.
Rick knows how well the gear was looked after and about the depreciation bizzo, so I'm expecting a hefty quote to replace.
AMI were preety good and did tell me about the depreciation angle.
Worth doing though this time, everything was damaged or destroyed and I don't give a shit about cost , when it's for my baby girl.
Swann still doing well, their assessor is away on a H O G run so they're sending someone from the office with a camera and to ask questions of the bike repairer.

aha! so that answers my question about how it happend. Ok, To answer your query about me fixing WIfes gear, short answer is NO. If the cordura has been ripped in an impact area, then you must replace the garment. Sorry, but was worth asking. Maybe keep the ripped ones to use as patches for non impact area rips. Same with leather jacket. I usually pull apart old garments and save zips, armour and bits of the fabric that have not been stressed. but then I am a dreadful packrat.

Just recently went through this. Accident happened in November, claim made on day, got money from insurance last month. After talking to heaps of different people the person the finally sorted it out was the original person who took the claim. Funny that!

My leathers were about 3 months old and I had worn them maybe 4 times. Gloves were the same and could have sold everything for new. Helmet was older but got quote from the bike shop. The took off 10% for all the gear (bike shop told them it was in new condition) and helmet was just the replacement value. It didn't matter how old the helmet was - it's full replacement value. That was good to know.

The chick that sorted it was pretty good. They didn't have any figures for depreciation so she just said "does 10% sound alright?", not really but you're going to anyway so sweet. She told us cycling gloves get depreciated at 50% after 3 months! So they're saying they only last 6 months! Harsh.

Good to hear you're getting it sorted Caseye. Really keep on top of them though. Hopefully you'll get it pushed through quickly.

I claimed on gear when my Beemr got nailed aroudn 18 months ago. They depreciated it, which pissed me iff since it was the other guys fault, so I was out of pocket through no fault of my own. I had a good run out of the helmet and it did the job I bought it for, but still....

Well I got quote from supplier, all gear no older than 6 months,AMI very good about that, will still be depreciating ALL items by 10%, on top of that they wanted the wrecked gear to stay at their office.Ia sked what would happen to it, they said, it'll be tendered amongst AMI. I asked to be informed when this was happening as i'd like tot ender, they didn't like that.
Toys for the boys seems like to me.
Still gear, bike and rider should all come together at about the same time, soon I hope.

Glad it all worked out fairly well for you and they didn't send your stuff away to be repaired.

I think they may have sent my jacket to a cobbler, because the damage was just covered up with nugget. Of course they covered the white stitching with black nugget too. Hmmm, shiny black patches on a matt black jacket.:nono:

I'm not surprised they didn't like that, clear conflict of interest I'd have thought.

Would have been muttering darkly about ombudsman and such me'self...

I did Phil, thats why it's AMI but Swan will cover helmets ( long as the box is ticked and you pay another $45.00) but not the other unless it's on the Classic Bike Insurance, cheers for the thought though.

Once again folks, many thanks, wifeys bike is now safely ensconsced in the garage with it's bigger brother, been out for it's first shakedown cruise, we did over 160 K's and all is well with the world. Wifey still a bit twitchy on right handers but always was, so situation normal.
Gear has been valued at actual cost from the supplier less 9.55% , all is being paid out on, so no repairs or alterations to be made.
New gloves, expensive as gloves go, but value for money for sure, less 10% discount from Quasi Moto for KB members. And they truely are the Bees Knees! Cheers Q man. x 2. I had to have some too, aye?
New Bell Apex fibreglass and kevlar reinforced full face helmet, from Lifestyle Imports cheers Rick. Ah also x 2 no more full face, full flips for us, after seeing how that last helmet broke and caused the side to cave in on wifeys face I wasn't risking that again.
Jacket, Trou and boots to come when cheque arrives .
A great day to day has been so far, now to win Lotto and get some of our bloody money back.

hey there, slightly different but we got burgaled a few yr ago and my leathers got taken AA sent round assessor and i happened to show him a photo that had been taken by our camera that had been stolen and it just happened to be of me in my leathers, he had already told us that we would only get 50% for the leathers but on seeing the pic he said they were obviously in good condition and changed to 100% for the leathers. just a thought but may be worth keeping updated pics of rider in leathers around. by the way they really looked after us

Yep a few years ago, we would have been insured with AA too, as it is they changed ove to AMI( our current insurers), any way the depreciation is something that no one is told is going to happen but it does! The fact that we only got docked 9.55% is due entirely to the Fact that we had only purchased all of my wifes gear late last year and were able to get a complete valuation and statement of the gears newness and good condition from Lifestyle Imports where we bought it from.
Glad you had a win, we did too, sort off, we will have to pay some more towards getting her replacement gear, but that is due in no small part to the fact that we will; be buying BETTER Gear this time around, it's simply not worth skimping on what you wear, her gear saved her her life and many serious injuries and complications, I'm extremely grateful to Rick of Lifestyle Imports who sold us good equipment that fitted our budget at the time.
i've bought new and better gear from him thsi time around and will recomend him to anyone who wants good gear at reasonable prices.
