It will be six-sided yellow stars next
What happened to "let those who ride decide"?

But yet he doesn't want more training of cage drivers to look at their surroundings.
Maybe cyclists should be wearing full gear (inc full face helmet) plus nav lights and beacons. And they'd still get knocked off and injured/killed. Look at that girl in Mission Bay - hit half-a-dozen at once.
Looking for a simple solution to a complex problem.
Still, were I (or a loved one) spending any time on a pushbike, I'd have those LED lights on (front and back) permanantly - particularly on open roads.

... to continue slowly in a south-bound direction at the far side of the north-bound lane
Only a psyclist would expect to do that and NOT have it end badly!
And, the coronor wants hi-viz mandatory because
{the coronor} commended {the psyclist's} wearing of a visibility vest, but said combined with his otherwise dark clothing, the fact he was wearing a backpack over his vest meant his visibility was reduced.
So, the dude was wearing a hi-viz when he was killed. Anyone else see what's wrong with this picture

After reading that Coroners report, I would call it suicide.
Clockwork

Coroners are like Auditors they always seem to need to make recommedations to change things (lest someone think they are not doing their job)
Having said that, and reading the story I think this one needs his bumps felt since no amount of hi-vis clothing was going to substitute for the lack of attention on the part of this rider.
Why not recommend the banning the use of clip on cycle shoes on the road.

Yup - the more people there are - the more people there are making rules.

Correct me if I'm wrong.. I only read the story once. The cyclist was riding on the wrong side of the road, towards traffic doing 100km/h?
For real??

Good idea. Half the cyclists might give up cycling with embarresmt and leave more room on the road for the rest of us.

Yeah, and guess who they'd make fluro vests compulsory for after that worked?

Again I postulate that wankers should have their own country.

Somewhere with lots of palms would probably be a good idea.

I'll wear a fluro vest when he forces everyone to quit smoking.
I don't want to smell that shit. It gives you cancer, when you don't even ask for it.

I am surprised there was a suggestion at all... i think driving on the wrong side of the road headed towards traffic has a natural progression to death. Not much thinking needed there, perhaps a blank stare and a muttering of Darwin.
No amount of rules and regulations can account for idiocy, options are a: training or b: bullet.

I tend to agree, its almost like there can be no moving on form and incident until changes have been made for better or worse, the common sence factor you high light is over looked.

Yeah man, I think it's something to do with way too much political correctness. Oh jeez, wouldn't want to critisize anyone for doing something wrong!
I.e. "it was a bad call and it sucks that it ended so badly, they paid a terrible consequence for a mistake."
Another factor rarely mentioned is that sometimes shit just happens, people make judgement calls all the time, some good and some bad. Sometimes the result is extremely unfavourable. I had a bin a few months ago because i wasn't thinking, there was very little to learn in the whole thing, the only think that happend was that it hurt, bike was buggered and i was not-so subtly reminded that i should have my wits about me at all times.

Here (http://www.police.govt.nz/news/release/22434.html) is another poor cyclist that could have been saved by a flouro vest.
Come on, Mr Coroner, you know it makes sense.

I saw this and stopped reading: "Constable Mark Durant, of Mosgiel, said when one south-bound vehicle passed, Dr Kerr appeared to think he had a gap and rode across the highway.
He was subsequently struck by the next south-bound vehicle, driven by Mosgiel man Jeff Connell.
Dr Kerr died instantly."
Somehow I don't think a fluro vest would have saved him, especially if he's gonna be pulling out in front of cars doing 100kmh in the opposite direction.
