Hi all,

Foz & I are planning on going for a 'faster' ride this Saturday, living in Tawa we will be starting there meeting at BP by the roundabout for lack of better place to meet at 9:30am, with a cruisey ride around 'the inlet' and over the haywards we will be meeting anyone who wishes to join at 10:30am at Upper Hutt Caltex, this is near the speed camera, if anyone needs better directions PM me.

From here we hope to take a run over the Rimitukas, cruise out towards Lake Ferry for a beer via the Western side of Lake Wairapara, up through martinbourgh, through tablelands to gladstone, up to masterton, over the ranges, then back over and back south via the back roads time permitting, otherwise straight down SH2, back over the tukkas and to home!

Anyway, we sometimes go a little over 100kph to pre-warn those who want to come (although not often :killingme), but it would be great to see a few of you out there with us for a fun ride.

Overall the plan is very flexible, and before you ask, the chances of me getting ready before 9:30am are VERY SLIM, considering I have to get up before 6am each day for work...

Please PM any interest so we can keep an eye out for you and of course if it rains we will resort to the local pub to drown our sorrows and talk long stories about how fast we would have gone...

[QUOTE=Keeper]Hi all,

Faster does that mean like my ride with a mate on Sunday up the Coast . Not much over 270k  :devil2: Would love to join ya but 1 trip down to Wellington a month is enough .

The memorial ride's this Sat too though. I'm busy before that but if you're going to the memorial ride then I might come along with you guys afterwards.

They informed me [The cops] that they will have to heavily police the Wairarapa in mufti and marked cars. This is because they are getting heat from the locals about bikes speeding over there.

Watchout for them as they are serious about it.

They also mentioned that as 'faster' riders it's our responsibility to look out for inexperienced guys who might be riding beyond their limits, as was the case with Sam. So if you have any younguns in the group might pay to stick them in the middle and watch over them.

If we all calm down a bit the cops are happy for us to police ourselves. Their words not mine.

Sensible words by someone here,

We arent' going to be goind stupid, we just want to wind the gas on in the twisty bits and get some leg down...

If you are trying for the Wellington to Masterton speed record thats not us...

Yeah we know the memorial ride is on, our ride will probably be passing through there about that time depending on how things go, and we might join for the leg to gladstone...

I'll see. There's the memorial thing on (as you now know) and I also want to try get some pictures of those eagles around the Wairarapa.

On the topic of the police, I don't for one second believe that if we "behave" for a couple of months, they will forget about us, and let us police ourselves. If we speed, wheelie, pass dangerously or otherwise break the law while in the vicinity of a police car, marked or unmarked, we'll get pulled over and fined (at the very least warned). I'm not complaing about this, that's their job. Thats the way it always has been, is, and always will be.

It's our job to ride safely, and keep the stupid shit for appropriate places (err, anywhere there are no cops  )

Btw, I don't pass dangerously...

Btw, I don't pass dangerously...
Hmmmmm This is sounding suspicious.

I think 'traditionally' there has been quite a high proportion of unmarked cop cars over that neck of the woods. I remember when I was working on a vineyard over there for a bit, most of the ones I saw (and I'm absolutely hopeless at spotting them!) were muftis. Sneaky eh.

Lately, I've noticed the mufti cars have a small band of tinting over the bottom of the rear window. This as you can imagine, hides the "box lights" in the bottom left and right of the rear window (a giveaway of a mufti).

Only prob, it's easy as to spot the tinting :killingme DOH!

My general rule is to take care around ANY make of car that is used as a mufti (Falcons, Berlina's, Commodores, Mazda 6's, L300 vans :killingme seriously, and more...)

remember to PM me if interested so we know where to look out for you from (also in your PM tell me where you will come from so we can help you pick a place too meet us).

long range forecast is clear for the weekend, so all going ahead to plan should be a big day, we will adjust our plan to suit either way, and if it isnt raining but is a misserable cold, windy day might just pop over the hill and quickly back home... :grouphug:

i used to have an R1, it used to chew through the tyres so I sold it for a smaller engined bike...

Ahh, you didn't get used to the tyre / petrol similarity... both require top ups at servo stops :msn-wink:

Read this while trying to find location of the Flyin accident.

I will most likely be riding down to visit the site tomorrow. Never met Sam but believe I will learn something by viewing that piece road.

Might see you at the FF or that 55kph corner.

I'll do the same Garry. I'll meet up at the FF and then head out to the site and then go for a ride (with these guys if they're there or else just somewhere else around the Wairarapa).
