Hi guys, I currently have an 09 CRF450X but am considering trading it in for an 09 YZ250, or 2010 if they are released soonish. However my problem is that I am attending Uni this year so making up the difference in cash Isn't going to be that easy, and I'm wondering if I should just stick with the CRF. It has about 25 hours on it so far and I keep it well maintained, oils etc, but I really just want some opinions as to if I would be better off in the long run money wise, rebuilds etc?
Any help would be appreciated guys, thanks.

the crf bieng an 'x' will need less maintainece by far than a motorcross bike, if you ride the 450 ok why swap, or do you find you want something lighter?

why is it people go on and on about $$$ being high on a 4t motocross bike mines done 103 and i just bought the 1 piston i have had to pay for other wise its only had rings etc out of the spares kits every thing has been measure up and is still well with in spec runs mint as and for that matter rupes has done 180hrs and still runs mint and all in spec on its 2nd piston and niether bike has been riden like some old granny owns it.
Any way if you want something lighter id go for the yzf there are some good deals on the 09 at the mo and the are 2010 model released although there arnt many change made to the 250

Dude wake up and smell the smoke, the four stroke myth has been busted!
I have done over 240hours on my 300 and am only doing a piston soon because it would be rude not to!!

while we're on the topic of myths- why do people always say the CRF-X requires less maintenance than the CRF-R, they are the same engine. the R has a steeper cam, and the R runs bigger jets, and the R runs a less restrictive exaust. apart from that the engine is the same!
and i too agree that allthough i personally done enjoy riding 4 strokes, they do require fuck all maintenance other than frequent oil changes, and all the other normal bike maintenance (suspension etc) however, a rebuild.... which eventually needs doing is more expensive than a 2 stroke, but less frequent so it evens out.
the bullshit about checking and shimming valves every 5 minutes is total horse shit, they seem to need doing every 100 hours or so.
back to the topic- get the one you enjoy riding more, though its likely the 250 will cost you less to run as 250s dont destroy tyres chains and sprockets and clutches like 450s do

A 250 will depending on how you ride it cost slightly more as there is the chance that you will be on the limiter more than you ever will on a 450 and booom is right in reguards to chains and tyres although i have found that i have now done 70 + hours on my xring chain and it is still in very good cond had it off the other week and checked over it.

Cheers for the feedback guys, I think I will just stick with the CRF. From what you guys have said the only thing I wouldn't miss would be the weight, and I don't know if I can be fussed going through the hassle of trying to sell it privately.
Thanks
