OK, so Taumarunui consists of a kart track.
Where am I going shopping and getting my lattes?
Are there any places to buy food nearby (preferably closer than Taupo).
Does life exist beyond the Bombays or is that a rumour like I keep telling people?
If camping at the track, are there showers nearby or can I really be allowed to be stinky all weekend - I guess we'll need a solar shower ;)
Is there any shade or does it rain down there? (can ya tell I ain't ever been outside Auckland)

I take it there's a supermarket? If not, pub will do ;)
Actually, that's a thought. How many people will be camping Saturday night? If someone can bring a BBQ, I can shoot out while you guys are playing and hit the supermarket to get bangers and steak (for those of us not that keen on bangers), or everyone can just bring their own.
I think if we're coming down, we'll be leaving Saturday morning (still trying to work out if the budget will allow us to come).

What is the address of the track?

The track is off the main road(SH 41), over a old bridge, turn left down a farm track... and like a garden of eden the track appears like a... like a... like a track.

here is a link. i have not been for a couple of years but thats where it was last time I went.

Trees, some rain, a river, a club house (not sure on access at this stage, normally good, toilet block (not 5 Star), not sure on other facilities.

Looking for food, go to the "copper kettle" best food in town.
stay clear of the main pubs; are known to be rough even for harden bikers.... RSA has some great food and cheap beer.

plently of spots for your latte's but maybe not up to your viaduct expectations Dutchee.

Well this is Ellen here from Shelracing here in Taumarunui. I'm working part-time at the 'Food Emporium" at the northern end of town, next to the Caltex.
Anyone from Buckets comes in on Sat or Sunday morning (we open at 8am) will get a free cup of coffee with any breakfast ordered, (this is a special deal for bucketeers and families only )and i will even cook your bacon and eggs too.
Our prices are very reasonable compared to the Copper Kettle. Pam, the boss has said she will even deliver breakfasts/lunches/dinners to the track if there are 5 or more orders.
We do takeaways, kebabs, curries (oops better not in a tent) and steak meals etc etc etc.
Just look for the 'ROSSI' poster in the window if you coming into town.
I will be at the track to help on the weekend, I think Steve is racing.

hey trudes

If you want something cheap, then try the Hilton, just opposite New World on the main road, heading north. It aint flash, but it has got beds.
There are plenty of Motels here just on the side roads behind the shops, I dont think they will be booked out.

I had one of the pancakes today for breaky, they are homemade and with banana, bacon and maple syrup, absolutley devine. But you better come with a good appetite cause you get HEAPS!!!!!

Unfortunatley the kart guys have left the Motel and i dont know what the prices are now. I will give them a call tomorrow and post the price for you guys here.

Its a little chilly here at night at the moment, so bring some warmer clothes for after dark. Especially if you are camping at the track.

There is a place called 'The Flax' that has food just down from the Hilton, but it is very expensive, as is the Copper Kettle.

Yeah Googlemap it, pretty much you turn right down that road SH41 before you get to Taumarunui & follow that for 4 min, if it were light on teh left over the creek you may glimpse the track & be on the lookout to see the side road which is more a driveway. Once you are on the drive you turn left over some gnarly cattle stops, gate often open then down a rocky paddock road & that will take you there in ~ 1min. Cell coverage is patchy but should be ok to call someone to get you if you can't find the turn off.

Everyone had an awesome weekend thanks too PMCC and all the organisers. It was hot and the track real sticky. We saw amazing racing from our top riders and some close racing from others everywhere on the track.
Someone was going really well and giving Tim Fraser a run for his money, then decided to bin it!!!!!! Who was that?
A few of the locals came out to see the racing and were very impressed with the standard of the racing.
Overall a real success.
Pumba, Steve didn't have a sulk and a lay down this time, but he did manage to loose 3rd gear on the RX. Hopefully we can get it ready for next weekend.

What an awesome weekend.
I learnt so much in those two days racing, the B grade was very competitive with a lot of similar paced riders.

The practice sessions on the Saturday morning proved what I thought when we walked the track in the morning, it was very tight and there would be few places available to pass.
I had never finished in the top three in a any race before, so to win the first race on the Saturday was an absolute buzz
The second Saturday race was a slap of reality, with the lead rider crashing on turn three and me target fixating on the rider coming second as he went straight off the track. I was in third and could of made the corner but also went off the track, rejoining in last place.

Sunday arrived with even better weather than Saturday. There were a few sore heads around the pits from the night before :drinknsin, but everyone was ready for another good day on the track.

A couple of practice sessions in the morning. In the second one I got to follow Str8Jacket for a few laps, when the white flag came out I decided to have a shot a passing. I went into the second part of the right hander after pit straight faster than I had been and chickened out :brick: riding straight off the track but managing to stay upright on the grass.

The North Island series races then started, it was now down to business.

Race 1 and I managed to hold third place.
Race 2 and I got swamped at the start (need to work on my starting) and finished sixth.
Race 3 and another bad start, finishing fifth, but I did manage a nice passing move near the end of the race on a similar paced FXR

A huge thanks to those that organised and ran the two days, plus those that marshalled.

All up the best fun I have had bucket racing so far. I can't wait for Easter.
