There's what looks like a rather large fire heading towards the bay. IT MAY NOT GET THERE, but i can see what look like 20 foot flames lapping the hilltops opposite Papakowhai.

There are huge plumes of steam and grey smoke when they hit the hill with the containers.

They MIGHT not get this one. If there's anyone you know in Titahi Bay, it WOULD be worth calling them up just in case and see if they need a bed for the night.

The fire is centred over Whitirea Park at the end of the bay... A few houses along one street have been evacuated, but most of Titahi bay is safe

There are gonna be some accidents if those cagers don't stop rubber necking, people parking on SH1 for a photo oppostunity, come on. (it does look amazing, would be worth an evening ride as it's coming down the hill side of the Park)

Massive smoke blowing towards the city from when we hit the motorway from Petone, at about 5pm, enough to make you kinda cough, so not good, then found out it was blowing from Titahi Bay, WOW!!

Its a biggie. Have had 3 choppers with buckets crusing around for about 3 1/2 hours now. We are safe and have checked on or freinds that are closer than we are and they are all ok. SOme have been evacuated but all in good spirits

Been a while since someone done that!! (but I bet it was a "accident" hot embers blown over onto the hill)
Mum's ok, but figured the washing will need to be done again. I was only there last week.....
Hope my inheritance staying in tack

 looks like they've sheperded the fire down to the sea on the Papakowhai side and the sky doesn't really look orange anymore... looks like Copters and Fire Service 1 - Fire 0... still burning gently though... quite pretty at night

I doubt it! I've heard stories by word-of-mouth that it was quite likely arson. Two guys seen running from the scene very shortly after it started.... Wonder if they realised the shit they were abouut to cause before they lit it?

Yup. He's lucky noone died. They did this at the bottom of a 30ft bank behind my first rental. Set the pine tree, 5ft from elevated decking, at the back of the wooden house on fire... right below my kids bedrooms...
If this wasn't an accident, what drives these people to burn things...
