Hey i just went for my 1st off road ride, over the haka pass, what a trip, easy gravel road for u peps that know what u r doing, but i loved it. on my kle500, legs r like jelly today, but i cant wait for the next trip, anyone have some ideas, for places to go round the lower south island??
Just as 4lakavat has had a teeny tiny taste onwards to bigger & better things I to had a similar experience today. Being in wellington I thought I'd head over to Ohariu Valley turning right at the crossroads & playing about on various roads (after a cup of tea at the down there cafe!) plus getting more & more comfortable with the bike having just lowered it & shod it in new black round things.
Was sorta looking for a track down that way but alas no.
So came back out & headed towards the new area above the Churton park turn-off where I saw new roads being laid. At the top of the hill & turning left instead of right into Grenada Village, squeezing past the barriers I headed up the new roads to the end thinking that would be it but hello & behold the pylon tracks pick up here & continue across the ridge line through to Grenada & above the houses & commercial area. Probably spent 40 minutes poodling about & even reaching back towards Horokiwi ridge & road.
Even came across a gaggle of goats! And awesome vista's towards the north.
Was a good "ease in" to the dual lifestyle & certainly makes me feel sure of the call to ditch sports bikes & try another flavour of riding.
Also real handy having it on the back door step (I'm in Churton Park). Was enough up's & downs, ditches & sweeping corners to gain some good experience.
Wouldn't be overly confident of the legals of it but hey, no one was around!
