FROSTY

Just had a call from gary at GP motorcycles.
The motor is history.-Toast --fucked.
I give up -I did everything right and still no good .
Thats it folks I've had it -Im outa money -outa luck and outa here -
Fuck this racing shit im gonna take up knitting.

Jeysus h christ frosty -stop feelin sorry for yaself and get yaself sorted.
Motor is as we speak winging its way up from Buckets and bits in Wellywood
It'll be a low HP stocker but itll be a motor.
Yep Frostys back in business
I give thanks eternal to Bryce at buckets and bits for cutting me a deal and to Gary at GP motorcycles for putting up with my manic depression.
Gary has managed to salvage 3 of 4 big bore pistons so Im only needing 3 ring sets and one complete piston and rings.
Okley dokely --THIS time the motor gets built up from ground up-no shortcuts.

For the record When I fuck something I do it good.
The 2 bolts on the number 2 rod stretched causing the crank bearing to spin then break away in chunks. the piston then was smacking against the head untill it fucked the valves. this in turn melted the piston to slag and carved chunks out of the bottom of the bore.
Im gonna build up a hot race motor but for trackdays and stuff Ill have me a cooking stock motor
kinda makes sense but I really diddn't wanna be forced into it.

man thats no good about the motor mate, I dont believe you will give up though, you would have already thought of a plan or two Im sure.

I know there is a speed knitting competition, maybe get some carbon fibre needles, hey you will prolly win with practice.

Common mate chin up and keep it going, its your lifestyle and prolly always will be

Yeah... It's never been a cheap sport but thats a real bugger... Sorry to hear that Frosty...

Someone had a thread a while back on how to get more people to come to bike racing events... Well come up with a way to help people get into racing without bankruptcy...

Cheers

ps - I need a new jumper though and since your are taking up knitting I was wondering if....

Unlucky Frosty, racing is a sport of natural selection and usually those who aren't meant for it crash so much they either can't afford to keep fixing the bike or they break thier bodies too much and aren't able to race anymore.

You seem to have done the right things and haven't suffered the above but unfortunately at the moment you don't have the racing gods smiling at you but you're not alone, just ask me or MR about blowing up race vans & I'm sure there's just as many guys on this forum who have blown an engine or 2. I'm sure you'll get back into it bro. In the meantime - I hear you organise a mean trackday....why not put some of that energy and creative genius into coordinating race meetings? Auckland MC Club is in need of some road race members. Just a thought anyway. Seeya at the track!

*DANGER DANGER WILL*

I hear ya. Sucks, huh? But can't help but think things happen for a reason..
Don't give up too quickly. I know you've blown the van up, and the bike keeps going too, but this *might* be the last one, and it's here to test you. Fix it this time, and things could be awesome from now on in..

or I could be spewing verbal crudd, but as long as you give it your best shot and don't quit easy, then fairs' fair.

is the motor beyond stripping back and rebuilding? What blew with it?

Fuck this racing shit im gonna take up knitting.

Speed knitting can get expensive too :)

Do what I do, get an old clunka - take ten years to restore it and zap round on the odd track day or private hire.

Alternatively, turn up to track days and teach people how to race - surprising how many rides you can scrounge doing that - and it doesnt hurt you when they fall off. :)

Ghost Lemur

oh no. oh no. meller yeller was coool.
every time Maz Quinn surfed poorly in the WQS he used to dump his (beautiful) girlfriend. Frosty don't be biffin da baby out wit da baf water. might just be time to take a break until you get the racing stoke back again (and some a more mooolar). sooner or later the anger will blow arf you and the green eyed monster will return when you watch the others going round and round a racing. then it'll be your time to race like a bandit again.

Tony my 2 cents...
I think its great that everyone is so supportive and prepared to help etc. However I reckon, times of challenge is always an opportunity to evaluate the dream, IF this is what you really want to do for yourself... then somehow you will find a way to make it happen. :ride: However, IF you, as Tony Frost, feel is enough, then its enough...
I reckon the people who love you would support you in which ever direction you decide to go.
Good luck.

Yeah Tony! We will support you.

Anyways dude, All i can say is dont look passed the Honda... Shite just reading about ur issues with ZXR and TS's money spent on ZXR...

Hell im a tight bugger although i must honestly say i havnt really spent a cent on the old Viffer.. I think that because the RVF motor has such low compression from stock (to lower HP as compared to VFR) they are in a lower state of tune and so i guess possibly last longer? (untill of course you go HP seeking...)

The gods have pointed me back towards my VFR too what with the 2 rather large bits of bad luck ive had on the Yamaha... but im being cocky and pushing his finger away! im gunna ride it anyways... And if Shade doesnt get his A into G and take the old VFR racing... (hurry boy!)

Anyways dude, Good luck with whatever move you choose to next make, your right, you have done all the right things, seriously, and its all turned to mush...

Time dude, a little more time and im sure something will work out.

Bad luck frosty. Been there, blown our zx9 motor about 3 or 4 times now and we've given up on the big bore for the time being. racingwith stock pistons and doing ok.

but as my buddy says, after the first $25,000, we stopped counting!

Take it from me, after about 16 years and many, many heartbreaks, we're still doing it - it's hard to give it up. Took a sicky from work and fitted a new set of tyres for the next Vic club race a couple of weeks away.

See U there!

Yeah and this time stop messing around with the bike and just ride it. Get it nice and reliable - i.e. as close to how it was when it rolled off the factory floor then it won't let you down.

Although I do agree that no matter how many precautions you take you are still not immune. I made my race van bulletproof but it still managed to blow its gearbox out of the blue one day coming through Bulls :(

All is looking good. The stock motor arrived at GP trading yessterday arvo.
The boys there are fitting it for me and making sure all is good inside.
They reckon a cooker is still putting out 55hp so I should be ok on the day.
I've seen pictures now of my last motor --Jeys wayne what a mess.
The sump is full of --well bits.
The rod actually broke in 3 places At the crank and about halfway up.
The crank looks like its been attacked by a hammer and chissle.
The crankcases are split inside and theres a huge chunk of the bore just plain missing. The remaining bore has tattoo marks up and down it.
The piston doesnt look like any piston Ive ever seen =its melted into a heap with the heads of two exhaust valves buried in it.
The Good news is that 3 pistons are all good and the head amd camset are undamaged, The clutch is fine and the rest of the crank is all good.
During the winter layoff my motor is going to be built up from the ground up.
New crank bearings and conrod bolts etc etc. The motors going to be 70hp again -but this time itll be built to take it.
