Hi folks.
Was wondering if anyone would have any clue / info as to WTF is going on?

Last year i bought a brand new Beltronics XR detector, only to have it go faulty within about 3 weeks.
So i take it back, and the sales bloke says,"leave it with me.We'll get a replacement."

Well,to cut a long story short, since august last year, i'm now on my fourth replacement XR, and Beltronics said they aren't going to replace it again.

Each one has had differing faults. I haven't got them wet,i padded the last one to make sure it wasn't shock/vibration causing the problems,i've re-hardwired it to eliminate that,i've had the voltage checked on my bike, only to find it's sweet as,what could it possibly be?
None have gone faulty whilst using them in the car.

Any info would be bloody marvelous.

Cheers,
Naph. >:(

Get your money back and try a different brand. I heard the same story with a beltronics on a recent model R1.

I tried that after the first one,but was told ,"they can't do that." ....... Typical !

I am suprised-mine has been as reliable as-about 2 years now. I have heard the LED display can pass away over time.

CGA says they *can* give your money back.

You have given them ample opportunity to rectify the problem . .not get your money and go elsewhere

Interesting. The only problems I have with my STI is when it gets too hot and it blips up "Service Required". I only get them problem if I leave it up in the sun (in the car of course). Bloody near burns my hand trying to take it down when it spits the dummy so no wonder really.

Agree, they have had ample opportunities to sort the problem. Clearly they're not working for you so another brand/model needs to happen (good english that).

But apart from that, I would say maybe have a look at them getting too hot.

I know what you're saying, but that wouldn't be an issue here,as i don't leave it on the bike when i'm stationary,so i can't see it getting too hot whilst i'm moving.

Out of curiosity,is this the site for contact details to complain to Consumer rights?

V1 5 years old no issues....have also heard that the new bels (of which I brought then sold) are a tad unreliable, not the kind of thing you want as it will end up costing in tickets......

There is another thread here somewhere reporting the same problems. Pity. The STi is the bees knees and is priced accordingly. You have given the seller plenty of opportunity, time for a refund.

I thought that was just the mag. But I think it's run by the Consumers Institute. That's who you wanna contact anyway.

You don't need to complain to anyone. If it faults again just take it back to the shop and explain that they have had ample time to sort the problem out and they have not, and you are invoking your rights under the CGA to have your money returned, so hand it over.

edit: preferably do it about 20mins before closing time, so there is no time for them to screw you around over it.

Just to update proceedings,i took the Bel XR back today, and asked for a different brand equivalent after a bit of a chat on the phone.

We're also going to try putting in a noise filter in line with the hardwire,to smooth out any possible power spike/surges,Just as a precaution.

There have been quite a few reports of Bel malfunctions on the US Blackbird sites last year.
