Part 2 of my journey is about to begin.
I plan to head out of CHCH on monday the 1st of March, thinking I might crack into Lee's pass, or just skip north and do port underwood road into picton.
But from there I am pretty open, I shall book a ferry for maybe tues/wed or when I am tired of checking out the sounds.
Any suggestions for rides to do around the Picton/Nelson area?
From there I plan to head up the east coast of the north island, possibly around east cape and maybe the coromandel if I feel the inclination.
Anyone keen to meet up for a ride along the way? or suggest anything I should check out? I have been too busy to sus out too much stuff for myself so I hand it to you guys to plan me an epic journey north.
Thanks in advance

Had time to kill once, while waiting for a ferry---thought ,where can I go.----Saw the cell phone towers high on the hill behind the town,so decided i,d give it a go to get up to them. ---After a bit of shagging round iI found the track goes up behind the transfer station, which is up a little road /street that goes off by the roundabought that leads off to the Queen Charlott road. Not quite legal I spose ,but a good ride up,& terriffic views when I got there.:done::niceone:

I am quietly hoping something will go wrong and I will be delayed enough to do the RRRR, but I really need be up north before that. Damn responsobilities.

True, I have ticked off some serious southern adventure rides, and I can tell you these southern lads (& ladies) have it made.
There are so many great rides down here.
In the last few weeks I have done;
Old Dunstan Trail 2x, which I think is my fav bit of road/track in the country.
Danseys Pass 3x
Nevis Road 1.5x
Little Omarama/Omarama Saddle
Mackenzie Pass 2x
Hakataramera Pass 3x
Lillybank Road/Macauley River
Mickelburn Saddle
And many nameless (to me anyway) back rounds around the country side.
I would love to live down here, but I would really struggle with getting anything but riding done.

LOL that's the point - we "normal" mortals only have 4 fingers right?

If you have time I'd be happy to shout you a drink as you pass through Welly as I'd like to pick your brains about some South Island rides.
Might be able to fit in time for a local guided tour if you like :)

Cheers for the offers guys, but I was forced to double time it up the country, so I am home already.
I did rack up a day in the sounds with Underground showing me around his locals, so the trip north was not entirely riding northward.
Did a slightly not SH1 trip back up to auck, missing most of the main roads and finding some nice quiet twisties on the way up to keep me entertained. Made a 480km day feel pretty good.
Being I left my camera at home for this half of the trip (stupid brain, I blame you for this one) I did not get any even half decent photos on this leg, which really sucks. So many times I wished I had it. Tried to take a few photos with the cellphone camera, but they are all gobshite.
alane, not made up just insignificant enough to have avoided the googleplex, and I spelt it wrong I think (mickleburn saddle)

nothing that fancy. but some worth while gravel stretches to stretch the legs, and it is the entry to the Orari gorge which is a half decent ride.
