Have just upgraded to a VFR400 so the 250 is up for sale.
This was my first bike after getting my learners and has been my main transport for nearly a year. I have taken it on a couple of long open road rides, has been through the Karangahake gorge and over the Kaimais, great fun through the corners.
It has plenty enough power for city riding and sits at 120 on the motorway without straining. It's light and nimble with an upright seating position and is a comfortable ride even for relatively tall people (I'm 6'1).
The carbs have been completely dismantled and thoroughly cleaned along with the throttle slide holders replaced (a common problem with these bikes but should be good for another 50 thousand kms!). Normal maintenance has been done, chain oiled and checked every thousand kms, spark plugs have been replaced. The electrics are good and the battery is strong, indicators have 24W bulbs in them for high visibility. Both front and back brakes are strong with plenty of feel. Heaps of rubber left on both tires, easily another 5-10 thousand kms. Bike has been garaged at home and parked under cover at work/uni. Starts straight away with or without the choke and has always been warmed up properly before riding.
Probably the best feature with these bikes is the false tank which opens by turning the key past the 'on' position. It should fit a medium sized helmet, I've had a dozen Steinlager Pures in there with enough room down the sides for a bottle of wine and a couple of bottles of soft drink. It has more space than some of the scooters that I've seen so it is one of the most practical bikes for commuting, have even picked up shopping on the way home a couple of times. Should be perfect for stuffing a bag with your lunch/books/pens etc. in if you're a uni student.
Issues: There is a bit of a tear in the seat, was told $40 for a new seat from a wrecker. The thermostat for the fan has been replaced by a switch under the rev counter, haven't needed to use it even when commuting in traffic during summer. It has the usual few scrapes and stone chips for a bike this age but nothing major.
This has been an ultra-reliable ride and would make a great starter bike for anyone who isn't too worried about the cosmetics.
I'm happy to arrange test rides for any serious buyers at any time after 5pm during the week or during the weekends. Anyone new to riding is welcome.

Rego has 5 months left, WOF has 3 months left and it flew through the last WOF with no issues at all.
