After my thread on bike rego's and how I intend to structure it ie: put on hold over winter etc I decided to speak to someone at VTNZ today. I wanted to find out when the new fees begin. The very helpful guy at VTNZ Belfast, Christchurch told me they'd received no notification regarding the increase in vehicle rego's. As far as he was concerned it's business as usual. I was under the impression that the new fees had been set? He went on to tell me some people are registering their bikes for 14 months. Can any of you lot expand on this? I thought new rego fees were going up on the 1st of July.

Confirming the new levies today, Dr Smith said registration rates for motorcycles would range from $327.70 to $426.92, compared with rates of between $511.43 and $745.77 under rates proposed by ACC. But that is still an increase of between $75 and $174 for the owners of petrol powered motorcycles.
Registration costs for petrol powered cars will rise to $198.46 – up about $30 on the current rate but less than the $272.72 proposed by ACC. For non-petrol cars, the rate has risen $311.38, up from $279.09.
The work levy has gone up to $1.47 for every $100 of payroll, compared with $1.31 now.
The earners levy has risen to $2 for every $100 earned, compared with $1.70 now.
Dr Smith said the levy increases were necessary because ACC’s claim costs had increased by 57 per cent in the past four years.
He said the Government had opted for more moderate motorcycle levy increases than ACC recommended but his message to motorcyclists was that the escalating costs of motorcycle accidents could not be ignored.

I think nothing has been set in concrete yet
Just to recap the current situation, the new ACC levies are due to come into effect on the 1st of June 2010.
New rates are:
* Mopeds 50cc and under: $129.24
* Motorcycles up to 600cc: $327.70
* Motorcycles over 600cc: $426.92
...
MR27
If you wish to register your motorcycle for an extra 15 months under the existing rates, get down to the AA, an NZ Post Shop or VTNZ and pick up an MR27 form.
This will allow you to register your bike for an extended period and delay the impact of the new levies until September 2011.
These must be completed prior to 1st June 2010.
