The recently introduced Daylight Saving An Alternative Wednesday Night Rides Progam Until 31 March 2010 - Wellington will have a brief report inserted here each week after the ride.

RIDE ONE
Wednesday 24th February
Harbour and Bays
Follow harbour around bays Oriental/Shelly/Scorching/Worser etc to Owhiro Bay and back up Happy Valley Road to Brooklyn (optional turnaround at Seatoun back through Seatoun Tunnel)
Done - A couple of novice riders that did the ride the night before to Makara (and also the previous weekend to Makara) fronted up again. When the time came to depart we all agreed that seeing as we all did the Harbour and Bays a fortnight earlier we should go and do.....wait for it...Makara again - this time from the Johnsonville end and a stop off at Makara beach before completing the ride back to Karori and into town.

RIDE TWO
Wednesday 3rd March
The Three Hills
Wallaceville / Mangaroa / Rimutaka Hill Route Map (http://maps.google.co.nz/maps/ms?oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&hl=en&hq=&hnear=Wainui+Rd,+Lower+Hutt,+5010&msa=0&ll=-41.123849,175.089111&spn=0.104225,0.297661&z=12&msid=118237826601181735195.000480b4396b5dc7c92c4)
This ride ends at Rimutaka Hill summit.
Returning down to Upper Hutt/Lower Hutt for meal.
Done - and not having much luck with some roads that have been recently resealed eg Wainui Coast, and now Wallaceville Hill. On this ride we abandoned the Wallaceville Hill and rode direct to Rimutaka Hill Summit where we agreed that it was getting a little too windy and did not carry on down to Featherston. We went down to Te Marua and turned off riding through Maymorn and over Mangaroa Hill, down SH2 and across Silverstream Bridge to Charlton's Bistro and Bar. Thanks Toaster and Eyegasm for the ride, I reckon we made the right decisions (aborting the new seal at Wallaceville and turning back at the summit) given the conditions and a novice rider in the group.

RIDE THREE
Wednesday 10 March - Route Map (http://maps.google.co.nz/maps/ms?oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=-41.08126,174.869814&spn=0.012163,0.035834&z=15&msid=118237826601181735195.000480f10a2813e549506)
Haywards Hill/Judgeford/Pauhatahanui/Paekakariki Hill/SH1 back to Mana

Last night’s ride up the Paekakariki Hill returning back down to Greys Road and out to the Sandbar at Mana, had its share of breakdown drama – and yes it does come in threes:
One: Tommo’s Beemer had a fuel blockage just as we set off from the Haywards, he wound up pillioning over to Pauahatanui and a friend (recovery vehicle) was going to meet him there and then collect his bike.
Two: On leaving the sandbar Karen’s Honda wouldn’t start took three guys to fiddle and fart around only to realise that the ‘Kill Switch” was…..say no more. Wasn’t Karen’s fault at all.
Three: On the way coming back up the Haywards in the dark we pulled over to see if a Suzuki GN250 rider needed assistance his front light wasn’t working correctly – he was on the phone when we arrived and assistance was on its way.

Thanks to all those nine riders that showed up for the ride and some backing up from the ride the previous evening around the harbour and bays.

We timed it right at the top of the hill for a glorious view out across the Tasman, I jumped up and down and thought I could see Tassie – yeah right!

Well the next seven days will see a feast of Wainui Coast Road: there are rides Friday, Saturday, Tuesday, and Wednesday posted up on the main Calendar

RIDE FOUR
Wednesday 17 March
Wainuiomata Coast/Eastbourne - Cancelled (wind and rain weather)

RIDE FIVE
