ok my son can't get Sat off work so I'm going to do the Mr Moto Ride Sunday!!
(over my preference which was to have my first go at scrambles?)

Scott
will there be a 5k Learners loop like some of the other rides??
(trying to convince my daughter to come)

So who else is doing the Mr moto ride!!

Meet at the Bp Service centre Papakura at 8:15am its an hour from there so get there 9:15. Even that won't give us enough time to gear up before the traffic jambs start at the tricky spots! LOL!!
Be there or be square!!

Look out for us I'll put the KB flag up!!

PS weather prediction looks good for the weekend!

you beat me by 5 mins with posting this

we will have a medium loop, not sure if it will be quite 5 km but it will be at least 3 paddocks, and something that is a bit more than just a flat paddock

when you say the BP, is that papakura or bombay????

Reckless
25th February 2010, 12:34
Bp Service Centre Papakura!

We can add the BP Bombay as stop 2 if the More southern guys want to meet and not take the back roads directly there.
Actually probably better to make it that Caltex on the other side at Bombay so we can just turn left and go straight back on the motorway ( plenty of land there to stop without getting hung up in all those intersections)

So its Bp Papakura 8:15am unless we get requests to pick more up on the way!

Ha Re-jetted out Ardmore yesterday she's got a lot more go now! The Roosts just got bigger!!!
Just have to watch out I've done the main jet right or bring some new plugs out and do a plug chop run or two? If anything she's still a bit rich but Ardmore was far to short a track to do much with anything but the airscrew, pillot and needle settings. Work in progress at the mo!!

Will there be easy options around any " testing" bits? This will be my sons 8th birthday and his first real farm trail ride so I don't wont to discourage him to much!

I hope Scott can work in a few to stop the traffic jambs. But if he's not quite up to the main trail then maybe he should stick to Scotts intermediate track over the three paddocks. My daughter and a lot of others here only ride these and its just enough. My take would be, only take him on the main loop if he's so board he begs you, there's plenty of fun, skill, speed and pain to be had in the intermediate loop.
Just my 2c.

BTW look us up we may have some riders his skill level for him to hang with!

scott411
25th February 2010, 19:33
well said reckless, i think at 8 years old unless he is amazing riding leave him on teh smaller loop, maybe try glen murray next summer as that is prob the most easy track we do, and with another 8 months riding under his belt he will be ready for it, find some people with kids the same age and you will be able to share the dutys of looking after them all day with the group,

It was a great ride with a nice mix of terrain. A little unnerving seeing a guy down a bank not far into my first lap, but as always the marshalls and medics were there quick smart.

Biggest suprise of the afternoon was being breath tested just near the Tuakau bridge - looked like they had a few people pulled over.

Dad(IIIRII) broke both his tibia and fibula in his right leg towards the ankle when someone T-boned him off a steep hill...

Also, to some complete c&%t who nearly ran him over as he lay there, your a complete c^%t. you were riding one of the demo suzukis between 12 and 1 oclock and had blue gear. And the fact that you nearly hit us wasnt bad enough, you went mental and started abusing us because you nearly hit us...

But big props to the MR guys, and especially to Nellie (sp, sorry) who was there quickly and had some anasthetic and knew exactly what to do, and stayed and helped untill dad was in the chopper, your a legend !!!

Wow, what a complete fuckin douchenozzle! Mob justice needed in this case I'd say, some people really need to learn respect for others :2guns: Sorry about your old man, noobs, hope he heals up quick, we wondered why we didn't see you guys there today.
I wasn't riding due to being a crip, but have to say, this ride has one of the neatest looking kids loops I've seen, really visible and a good size. And an excellent view of the riders heading back over the other side of the carpark over the hill! Big downhill and a straight with a little natural jump made for fun watching, cool watching a trail ride from so far up, felt like watching helicopter footage. Real shame about the injuries, I was just saying to meatbomb not ten minutes before the helicopter showed up how good it was there hadn't needed to be a chopper that day.

Had a pretty good ride. Bumped into climintie and sophie on each loop. Did a loop with my brother and one by myself.
Getting stuck behind a quad was pretty stink. I just pulled off and waited for a bit to let the dust settle and get some distance between us. He ended up pulling off due to some break down or something which was good for the two wheelers. :P

Real dusty and hard for the most part but with a couple of slippery sections coming out of stream crossings just to keep you on your toes.

Definitely lots of carnage around the place. Saw more than one person getting rescued after taking a ride down a steep bank. On the long steep decent on my 2nd loop someone had lost it and was being seen to. Its always interesting observing human nature when it comes to tricky obstacles. People who clear them all accumulate on the other side and watch the show unfold. :)

I think it was one of those rides where it was best to ride at 80%. One mistake and your going to hospital in some places. I had two guys over take me going at a decent pace, but within 100m I had caught up with them again as they recovered from nearly going off the track. Hard not to get caught up in going as fast as you can though.

Hope your dad is comfortable n00bi. Did the person that t-boned him stop and help etc? What part of the track did it happen?

Sorry to hear about you dad noobi came that hill as oldskool was walking back up to you guys I stopped at the gate,
saw there was a group of yous so carred on, didn't know who was injured at the time.
As greenie said the second loop I find is always the better ride, as the first i use just to learn where all the tricky parts are.

I'd have to agree with flyingcr and oldguy, I will not have fond memories of this ride. Going down a steep descent I heard a little kid bawling his eyes out as he attempted to ride/slip down. I wouldn't have considered it a family ride and am glad I didn't bring my little ones with me. I shudder to think what it would have been like wet, especially on some of those rocky ridges with big drops both side.

Get well soon Glenn. I hope you aren't in too much pain and heal fast. It's a numbers game this sport we're in, and the funny thing is your injury has made me rethink my involvement in it. Sometimes I wonder if I would continue riding after an injury but didn't think I would question it after a mate gets injured.

Well my DIY chest cam housing failed. What I didn't allow for was the polarising filter somehow buggered with the fisheye and the result was a blurry discoloured video. And then the fisheye fell off and the image cleared up but all you get to see is throttle control and some of Glenn having a sleep on the side of the hill, but I won't post that. The reverse helmut cam worked well so I will post some of that angle of the ride tonight when I get home from work.

I rode a mates YZ250F all day and I hafta say I am spoilt riding the KTM 350. Whereas the plush KTM would have soaked up all the bumps, have perfect linear power control over bumps and holes, big stopping power with no brake grabbing, the YZF was the complete opposite. It felt like I was on a pogo stick, over bumps I'd wonder which way I would bounce and land. The brakes locked lot's and 1st gear is so tall, going through tight turns, even with a lot of fanning of the clutch it sometimes would bite too quick and boof it would stall. What I did like about the YZF was it was 20kg lighter and isn't as tall as the KTM. I had a complete workout. Something I'd forgotten about since riding my old KX.

Yeah I was breathtested twice at the booze bus. Thanks FlyingCR for giving me the heads up. I drank copious amounts of water before running the gauntlet. Oh and I passed!

So Evan, what ya gonna get in a bike? Still going for a YZF 250? Choices choices.

Hava look at the video I'll post later before you count it out. A bit of carnage and idiots yeah but still another riding experience you can notch under your belt.

I don't know what bike anymore. I'm pretty much happy with the KTM handling and power the big bore gives it, the magic button is great too, just the weight is so taxing!

Wouldn't it be funny if I really enjoyed a 200 2T enduro!

1st March 2010, 12:29
I agree with some of the above comments. I've very much a novice rider, only way to improve my riding... I was taking it very easily through the 'goat' tracks at the start of the ride, especially after passing the first accident. As I know I'm a novice I pull over as soon as I can but there was one quad who went flying past me on one corner that was just ridiculous.

The other incident I found was idiotic was another accident on the second loop. I came up to a guy standing on the side of track waving his arms so obviously slowed to a crawl and some idiot went blasting past me and through the accident site. It's a trail ride not a race, some guys just need to learn a little courtesy.

In saying that though a number of people I let past give a quick wave which is appreciated.

Over all I think the ride was a good mix of terrain. I certainly wouldn't have liked it if it was wet. The hardest part of the ride for me was the steep downhill in the white powdery stuff.

Looking forward to the Waikaretu Beach run, hopefully this ride is within my abilities!

Well I had a bloody good day!
3 loops as fast as I dared 94k, ok for an old fella and came back in one piece! Criked my ankle when I put my foot out when I shouldn't have but not to bad. After the first run did a final main jet change and the bike felt bloody awesome in the engine and the suspension. Good power to hover the front up over all the ruts etc and Dangers suspension was floating me beautifully over everything else!!

Bloody dust though Jeepers you had to have a lot of faith in the guy in front as you couldn't see the trail at all when following!

Good ride thanks Scott!!

BTW scott is caught between the frying pan and fire here! Make it very non technical like this one and you get more speed induced injuries. Make it a bit more technical and you get huge traffic jambs! Its really a no win situation for him??

I loved this ride... only did one loop as I am sooo unfit and also had no hydration pack (silly move on such a hot day!) - didn't think I would even be able to hold on til home on that last hill up to the carpark, but the one loop I did get in I thoroughly enjoyed. The stream crossings were awesome, just enough of a challenge without being too scary for a not-so-expert rider like me ;-) Thanks Scott.....

Absolutely loved this ride (always do) Sophie and I TRAIL rode it, lots of stops to take pics/admire the view and let the dust settle...

Most impressed with the medics at these rides, their training and skills are right up there and I wonder if the "Darwin" riders realise how much they're helping with that training

Scott, on a related note... Could there be a donation box for the medics at sign on, I for one would happily put a few $ in......

Yeah I saw the trials guy too, with the singlet on! He reminded me of the guy at the City Scrambles!

Don't know who it was, but some really cool guy helped me in a ditch. I looked up and there were about 10 people waiting to come down! He got my bike out and started it!

Some guys are so awesome at these rides, whoever you are. Came off on another corner and 2 guys stopped immediately and got my bike from down the bank! You guys rock! Wouldn't say it was a favourite, but it was a challenge and I'll probably be back next year! The downhill was really cool, last year couldn't do it! Yeha getting better!

the Trials rider was my ex parts man MAtt (he left on friday) the first part of the ride with the steep drop offs is his old mans farm, all the brothers can ride pretty good,

the medics are supplied form the Pukekohe Motorcycle Club who have there own ones now, they are paid by the organisers but i am sure they will accept any donations, Rosie (Nellies Mum) runs the operation and will gladly put money into more equipment if it comes in, we have at least an advanceded paramedic on site at all rides now, some of the medics come from as far as New Plymouth and Whangarei to help us out so it is pretty cool,

as for the idiots, (and the one on my demo bike) we find them, and give them one chance to sort there shit out, unfortuantly i can not watch them all the time but will sort out when i can, report them to me or one of my guys and i will sort out as best i can

I think I had the KB flag up on the ute? There was me my three riding mates, Jinxycat, Oldschool, Nobbi and others! Oldguy and FlyingCr250 came for a visit. Not hard to miss people with 500plus riders there! LOL!!! We all missed Cimintie and we usually catch up with him at some stage LOL!!.

Dad is doing ok, had the surgery to screw his leg back together today, was pretty groggy when we went to see him tonight.
He said the helicopter was fine, but the ambo ride from the heli pad to the hospital was terrible, the drivers were crazy.
The xray is pretty impressive, ill post it up on here sometime.
Thanks again for your time and help on sunday Neliie

Oh wow, I can't believe I still look short on my big bike!!! I was concentrating so much I didn't know it was you guys! I did hear a couple of guys say something as they went past. They also didn't roost me, so it must have been you and Reckless! The KDX is super cool, other than looking like a trials bike! Yeha, finally the perfect bike, I sorta knew it woulid be easier than finding the perfect man!!!

Thanks to all those who helped me out Special big hug to nellie and les

Legs back to its original shape but very swollen.

I dont really remember exactly how I came off, but I do know it wasnt from being an idiot, I do remember seeing someone in front of me having touble and slowing right down to get past, I think going arounf the lhs would have been the smart move ....
Anyway, Im 100% sure it was a genuine accident and dont hold any grudges etc:
When they pin your leg, the pin goes from the underside of the knee to the ankle ....!!!
I thought it was like only 100mm long ...
Ill post the xrays after we scan them ....
Again cheers to the rescue people and aploogies for needing to be rescued (it really fucked up my day too)

Well I'm no doctor but I do believe that is a broken leg! Where abouts on the trail did this happen? Was it one not far into the ride on the right hand side of the trail?

All the best with the recovery!

Fark that. Ouch, better not show the kids this one.

Where abouts on the trail did this happen?

The location is on the video I posted. Glenns orange bike is parked up against the fence on the left and Glenn is to the right down the hill. You'll see Noobie pull up and park against a log.

Not 100% sure maybe an hour.
Roughly 3 hours from when I did it to when they put me in the chopper.

Yeah Im not a doctor either but I knew it was broken before I came to a stop down the bank....
The really loud "SNAP" followed by . my foot isnt connected to my leg, was a bit of a giveaway ...
