View Full Version : What is the abrasion resistance of a twat's skin?

Probably just another old post, but what is the abrasion resistance of the following
1. Skin with no covering
2. Skin with suntan lotion.
3. Skin with a cut off tee, no gloves and shorts.
4. Skin with a teeshirt on.
5. Skin with a lightweight Plastic rain coat.
6. Skin with any motorbike jacket on ( Both leather or armored Cloth ).
It seems yet again as the Sun has come out, the clothes come off.
This may be pleasing for the eye when you get off the bike, But I suspect if you dump it, it may not be so pleasing to the eye.
But 120Kmh on the Northwesten, weaving in an out of traffic at 5:30 tonight with option 3 makes us all look like twats, and I don't mean that in a nice way.
Some will say, "its a life style choice", but if that girl rider wonders why I did not wave at her tonight, when she waved at me, its because I don't wave at twats, riding with one gloveless hand in heavy traffic.

I saw a guy recently going up Courtenay Place on the commute wearing an Armani / pinstripe suit with a coffee in one hand and attempting to ride his crappy scooter at the same time..
Darwinism unfortunately will sort these plebs out :)

What is the injury resistance of a biker twat?
It seems yet again, that as the sun comes out, so do the bikers.
But they're so much more prone to injury if they crash.
They should all be forced to drive nice safe 5-star crash rated cars.
Boohoo.
Fuck off, Mr. Jeffs.
edit: Poor biker is probably so broke saving for their upcoming ACC levies that they can't afford the gear.

There's a guy who lives close to me who rides his bike in whatever he happens to be wearing but adds a helmet, which hey, your skin mate, but I think I may have a friendly word to him next time I see him at the supermarket about making sure his 10 year old daughter is wearing at least some jeans and gloves when he has her riding pillion. Even a slow speed low side can give you some very very nasty gravel rash!
I'll probably get told to get fucked and to mind my own business, what's funny though is that people like this then claim ACC for their medical treatment which WE all pay for, so it is my business.

If it's a noob and they don't know better, I'm happy to offer some helpful advice regarding appropriate gear.
If it's someone who knows what they are doing and has made informed choices - it's the twat's skin and it's legal.

Oooh, I don't like that. It's one thing to give your kid a little thrill with a short ride at low speed, but I don't like the idea of a yound child with no protection travelling at normal road speeds on public roads. That makes alarm bells ring in my head. Take the kid out to one of those kids parks, with kid bikes, and kid safety gear if you want.
I try not to force my views on others, and say if they know the risks (that's if) then they can choose to accept what risk to accept. It's their life.
But when it involves the life of someone else who is unable to make that decision for themselves ... that's a line I don't like being crossed.

Thats why I dont wave at bikers.
Dumb cunts are 35 times more likely to die in a crash than me and my mum in the Volvo. Their "lifestyle choice" costs me money in ACC, clogs the hospitals and they should be banned forthwith.
[EDIT : sigh.. for those giving me red rep... this post is tongue in cheek... reflecting my "lifestyle choice" which is motorcycling...]

Presumably if "she on back" is knickerless then the abrasion goes up, or at least a vacuum forms, and she moves less.

It's a free country, the only requirement is to wear a helmet. There was a reason Helen Clark and Labour were voted out at the last election - or were you keen on having your shower flow restricted, among other things?

I was riding in the 80's when BRONZ were fighting compulsory helmets. At that stage I was single, aged in my 20's and had no responsibilities. I fought hard to not have to wear a lid, and got many a ticket for not wearing a lid.
Here I sit in my mid40's, with kids, mortgage and a good life I wish to continue with. ATGATT is my choice these days.
Things change and you might be suprised at how your attitude to pain and lack of income changes as you acquire more experience.
TO each their own, but don't expect others to clean up after you.

Very sensible Ratti. Unfortunately some of the biggest whingers about freedom of choice still expect the tab to be picked up by the tax payer.
It will be many of those same people who ACC use as scapegoats for their new policies. Holy moley - that might mean heaps of bike riders!

Actually, laws tend to be for the greater good rather than the individuals.
No matter how selfish one is, one does in fact live in and is part of a community. As part of that same community, whether you like it or not, that gives me the right to say "nah, I wont support that idjut if s/he chooses to do dumbarse shit that ends up in tears"
As you have the right to tell me to get stuffed and continue on your merry way with no regard for others.

27th February 2010, 23:37
My view of why I asked the first question is simple, and not aimed at anyone in-particular. Except the rider on Friday night.
Putting aside the ACC bit and the" oh no, not another do gooder trying to tell me what I should be doing" responses.
It was not just the fact that she was wearing no gear at all, it was not the fact that she was lane splitting ( I was ) , it was not the fact that she took her eye off the traffic to wave at me.
It was because she was was not lane splitting, she was riding like a complete ASS, weaving in and out of 80k traffic across all 4 lanes at speeds over 120k ( and yes I can tell when someone is doing over 40k faster than me ), wearing only a tee and shorts, and riding with one hand looking back waving, while still weaving.
Justify that style of riding, and I hope you did not go on the ACC rallies, because if you did, then you did not go to stand up for bikers, you only went so people could pay less for being an ass.

I hope you had fun writing that but it doesn't actually add much to the debate
Your last 4 words bear some examination though. "No regard for others".
Wearing , or not, of gear, has no impact on others (spare me the bleats about the poor emergency crews and the imminent rise in ACC - one is a job choice and the other is based on political ideology).
So I repeat - resist the urge to pass laws designed to save me from myself

THE AIMS OF BRONZ ARE:
To promote road safety through road user education.
Education rather than legislation saves lives.
To protect and promote the rights of the motorcyclist to decide his/her own future as a road user.
Let those who ride decide.
To promote and protect the general welfare of the motorcycling public.

You do need some basic legislation in place to protect everyone else.
Helmets and speed limits are a good examples.

I think you have completely missed the point.
This assumes thats its OK to stop someone doing something, for their own good, even if they really want to do it, and it will have no effect on you.
You are arguing that its OK to stop someone riding without a helmet as we know they are 1.3 times safer when they wear one.
Id suggest that I could make you 35 times safer by stopping you riding full stop.
In fact, just by banning motorcycles, I could make a massive overnight reduction in the road toll.
Just by reducing the maximum engine capacity to 125 cc I could make massive reductions in the road toll, without affecting your ability to get to work on a motorcycle !. (You do really own your bike for transport, not recreation ?)
Be careful what authority you wish to bless your transport angels with.. they might like it more than you imagine.

With appleogies to David, I believe the point was his insistence that the decision was not so much correct or otherwise, It's the point that it's his, not anyone else’s.
The fact that some arbitrary associated costs have been levied upon the combined plebdum in no way removes his right to that decision.
PS: I also object to the notion that I can be "educated" into making a decision which might fit the public purse better. If I wanted edumicating I know where to get the services required myself, ones unadulterated by nonsensical ideology.
PPS: in order to demonstrate the point I'm off for a wee sojurne without benefit of my dayglo skivy, and if I should come across any cones I'm going to burn the fucking things.

Just to clarify. I'm not an advocate of laws to 'make' people do things. Minimal laws and maximum education and information.
People do stupid things everyday, i will put my hand up here and say 'me too'. In many areas of life, not just riding. There is always a consequence to any action, if an individual can live with the consequence then all well and good. But if the consequence of your choice impinges on me who did not make that choice, then I retain my right to get angry with you.

Since Ratti seems to live in Lower Hutt, I suspect she at least was not the biker I was writing about :)
A lot of people seem to like using the F word on this thread, I suspect no matter how bad the rider I saw on Friday rode, they would justify it to themselves just so they could use the F word on KB. Sometime I thing keyboards should have 2 F keys, it would save them so much time having to think about typing a proper thoughtful response.

Who would bother to keep their bike at WoF level if there was no WoF?
Who wouldn't wear a helmet if it wasn't law to do so?
I bet everyone will find a reason not to do at least one of the above at some time and jump on a soapbox giving that reason.
Mostly the first I imagine but others will have different opinions based on their flavour if riding.
Unfortunately ACC puts us all in one little box as a co dependant community what you do affects me and what I do affects you...directly!

Almost worth jumping on a surfing forum and suggesting mandatory anti-shark suits and lifejackets.
