Hi guys
My father had a crash today while practising in the NZ Superbike round at Manfield
He was on the red and white Yamaha number 80 in the production superbike class. He is in hospital overnight but other than some bruising and loss of memory he is ok.
Did anyone happen to see what happened? We were moving to a new spot at the time and missed it. It seemed to happen between turns 1 and 3.
Any help would be appriciated.

High side at turn 1 I believe, we were pitted next to him and gave his wife a hand to load up his bike and back the trailer out.

from what I saw it was a highside .. glad your dad is ok, when I spoke to your mum they thought he had a broken collarbone.
figured his memory took a beating .. he could not remember where he was pitted when we brought his bike back in.
Give your dad all the best & hope he recovers well

I was the first there... Well, actually Mr Stroud was, but I had to send him away, else we would have TWO bikes to pick up...
Anyway, I didn't actually see the Highside itself, but, a certain case of too much on the rear (gas) for the amount of traction available.
When i spoke to him, he was laying on his side in the recovery position, and the AMBO guys were right there (without being called I think, but they guessed right).
OR, did we call them?
Anyhow, I wish him well on his recovery., and so glad to hear he is going to be okay.
He landed pretty heavy on his head.

I was the first there... Well, actually Mr Stroud was, I remember distinct instructions at riders briefing telling us under NO circumstances are we to stop and give a downed rider assistance.....

I was thinking yesterday and today on my drive home...and I'm touching wood at the moment but after my weekends efforts, turn one is the only place I haven't crashed at Manfield now! Hope you Dad does well with his recovery - not a fun position to be in, for sure.

Yup.
Wasn't at Rider Brief, as I was at Marshals Brief, so I'll take your word for that Biggles. It makes TOTAL Sense to me....
Heck, myself got dragged over the Coals by one Mr Chappell before we properly met for doing exactly what Mr Stroud did yesterday....
Mine was a Training Day, and I had a side Stand to prop my bike on that the time..... Put myself in a little danger!! I Digress.
To be fair to Mr Stroud, Preservation of Life of others can make you not think totally rationally....
That is why I tapped him on the back and told him to keep riding. I was very polite about it.... And there was nothing he could do that i couldn't.
Then I could assure the fallen the Ambo was on its way (10 Seconds away). He clearly couldn't see anything apart from a tyre wall as i advised him not even to bother looking, and stay still......
No real harm done.
While clearing the track, we got a report that #1NZ passed under Red Flag.... I made the comment to a fellow Crash Recoverer, "Who do they think they are? Super Stars? Superstars can still be very hurt!" (And apparently can still do dangerious stuff..... NOT!).
Ahhh. Bleet over,
Back to work I go... Hopefully the other computer is up... Wait, Lunch time!

Thanks for all your wishes guys. He ended up with a cracked rib and a lot of brusing on his shoulder. He is just trying to figure out in his head now exactly what happened. Bit hard when he cant actually remenber anything after leaving pit lane for that session. Bike is a bit damaged but nothing that cant be fixed. Worst thing is it landed on on steering damper and its now impressivly bent.

Nothing wrong with stopping to see if they are alright, especially if it's a nasty looking one. In the 80's, the entire sidecar feild would stop if one ran off the track, the leader would stop the race before the red flags came out. Very cool, funny sometimes, what racing used to be about in the old days.
