Alternative route to Taupo. FANTASTIC

Lucky me went to Taupo to See Dave Dobbin on the weekend.
Since I had all day to get there I rode the back roads from Pukekohe
What a awsome ride, I so recomend anyone riding from Auckland to Taupo to take this route.

Back road from Tuakau to Huntly,
along River road to Ngaruwahia
To Parongia
Te Awamutu
Kihikihi
Mangakino
Taupo

Only 30ks more than state highway 1, but so much more fun
Great roads, no traffic, great scenery

THose are great roads..........i do everything i can to stay off SH1,!

Also a good way to avoid Taupo if you are heading further south, ie from Mangakino go straight to Turangi

Way I always go - Beware the cop on the Mangakino Straights - Kihi Kihi end.

I would have been walking for a long time but she didn't get a lock. Still cost me $480 and I got off light.
