Sorting out my wardrobe this morning I found my cordura jacket, (size L) I bought it a while ago from an op shop but it doesn't have any sleeves (so basically a vest) I don't want to get rid of it but was wondering what I could do with it?? I am very competant with a sewing machine but what fabric would be good to use? (I don't know anywhere that sells cordura fabric)

Id just wear it over the top of your jacket as an extra layer when it gets cold. Its likely that its only about a 700d, so not suitable for abrasion protection on its own.

if you are determined, then 2mm leather might do the deed. Make sure its at least 1.8mm. any lighter is just rubbish on a bike

try an upholsterer, auto trimmer, canvas worker. They may have some cordura that will work. Its unlikely that they will buy any in for you as they will most likely have to purchase a minimum cut of maybe 10m. You need at least 1000d, preferably with a waterproof coating on the inside.

Unless you have a walking foot machine, you're going to be struggling to keep your seams from creeping. Im not doubting your skill, just giving you a headsup about what you are up against. It'd be a waste to get the stuff you need and then not be able to do a good job that you will be proud to wear.

Thanks Ratti. I do have access to a sewing machine with a walking foot so thats not a problem, will check with a few places although I do have an old leather jacket that I could possibly use! Food for thought.
