Wannabe Dunedin racer

whats the best way to get into racing? Is there some sort of club series or is it only the national events? If there is regional racing, what is the level of competition and how good a bike do you need to have fun. Not interested in 600c or 1000cc racing though, as death would most likely follow

nah man join otago motorcycle club. i would make a link to it but im too slow.

we race at timaru, invercargill and chch, theres usually 2 odd meetings a month (one north, one south) plus tracck days and the like. most things are part of some series or another


main racing classes are f3 (400 4 cylinders, 650 twins) senior (600/1000 new stuff) streetstock (good entry class on 250 twins or 150 2 smokers) motards, buckets (up to 150cc anything goes, cheap racing).

Theres classic classes as well down south and through CAMS up north.

Come along to a OMCC club meeting and there will be plenty of people that can help you out, give you bad advice

Give Street stock ago if it’s the first time out on the track. I've been on the 150 for a while and just spent the weekend on the Hyosung Gt250r. There is so much to learn on these bikes and I would strongly suggest either of them. The Hyosung 250 is a lot smoother and reliable though.

ah yes back in dunedin. What class/bike do you recommend? My ego says streetstock looks boring/slow, but my head says it could be a good place to learn. Is it really the only place to start, or are there other realistic classes to start in?

As far as bikes go, how competitive are 2T proddy bikes in f3? I'd love to race one, as I ridden them alot on the road and really like it, but at the same time don't want to come in last.

The Street stock class does look relitively slow from a crowd point of view, but when your out on the track with a relitively competitive group of bikes they fell alot faster, the class is great for learning what you can push through the corners before jumping up onto a big and expensive bike. And well it's Great Fun!!

Its easy to go fast down the straights, but a lot harder to go fast around a corner.
Dont discount Streetstock as a beginer....if your quick on one of them then youll be quick when you step up a class I reckon.
