"Motorists in New Zealand's ageing population are increasingly outliving their capability to drive safely, says an American expert on older drivers, Elin Schold Davis.
"People didn't use to outlive their driving licence, because when they fell ill, the same medical condition which impacted their capability to drive also tended to kill them," she said.
"Medical care has improved, people are living longer, and it has created a very new issue".
Now many older drivers faced pressures to surrender their licence
