Is it just me, or does this make you say "yuck!"?

What's the deal with that box they call an exhaust? Bring back the 916 stylings, if you ask me :Punk:

Yea have to agree. That back end just isn't right. The rest of it is ok though I wish they would have stayed with the older nose styling like this one.

You guys on fucken Drugs or something, if you cant appreciate Ducati styling how can you appreciate motorcycles in general ?
Ducati are amongst the most influental stylers of motorcycles in the world, ie the 916 the 999.
I accept it may not be everyones cup of tea but how can you say Yuck and say such things.
Line this bike next to yours and which would you expect people to ogle over ??

Wha't I'm saying at least is that compared to the absolute beauty that is the 916/996/748, I think that Ducati have let themselves down.

It's not our fault you have a sexy beast of a bike!

I agree wholeheartedly, I reckon the best looking Duck after the green frame, round case 750SS was the 916, now thats classic styling. All the later ducks esp the 900SS hark back to Ducatis glory days , that bought us such trajedys as jellymold tanks etc

HA!! If I wanted a bike purely for looks no matter the price I might get a duc or a hog but why spend all that when you can get a jap bike that has the same abilities at half the price? I don't buy a bike becouse it's popular I buy a bike becouse I like it. Personality mate everyone has thier own and I'll be damned long before I let the fad rule mine.

They couldn't afford to pay the designer to finish the rear. And, isn't it funny that people think that because it's got a Duc badge it's gorgeous.

Hey, it's a bike, it looks good. It's a racer so I'd never buy it (Ducati price-tag doesn't enter into it) and the exhaust box looks different, but that doesn't stop me admiring the look of the thing. Only bikes I think look ugly are some of the Buells with the bulbous black wart on the side of the engine - but even then they're still bikes.

Now, if it had a roof, two extra wheels, doors, steering wheel - then it would start looking "yuck" :devil2:

I think Ducati is trying to distingush themselve from the Japs by designing a bike very different.

I remember posting a thread before about whether people liked the new or just past models.

Most said they liked the older model.

Now the front end is OK. But the back end is a piece of sha-ite.

I'd say the back is okay. But the front is really really ugly. Around the headlight it looks like a fly with it's eyes on stalks.

Ferrari usually get Pininfarina to design their best cars...

People rely too much on branding for style cues. Just because Ducati got the styling right once does not mean it will always do so.
Simplicity is fundamental to good design. Too many Gew gaws and Doo dads is unwanted clutter which I find prelavent too often in American design. :puke:

To quote Enzo Ferrari

"To Italians making cars is an art, to Germans it's a business."

You could say the same about Italian and Japanese motorcycle manufacturers.

The fact of the matter is design is subjective. As any designer will tell you if you want to push the design boundries there will be occasions when it doesn't come off. There's a few pininfarina designed cars that look like bollocks (IMHO), doesn't mean they made a mistake or did something wrong, it's just the nature of the game.

As for the bike in question, can't say I'd turn one down. Seen a couple in motion and it certainly turned everyone's heads.

I like the exhaust box. It's neat and tidy and gets rid of the exhaust altogeher and integrates it tidily into the overall design. Much better than those zorsts hanging on the side which look like someone had a bad moment in a baked bean factory.

Flattery gets you everywhere.

I had a ducati the 2002 750 ss loved it to bits, I wanted to get a nice 748 but no way can I afford the price tag, let alone the service costs. I considered the situation long and hard and thought I would go jappa, I ended up with the ZXR because of its awesome styling and performance that would prolly be better than the 748 in many aspects.
If I could go and buy any bike I wanted right now , it would be a Ducati 999 without question. that to me is the pinnacle of sports bikes, there is nothing better in one complete package that spins my wheels:ride:

The shape has been growing on me (old school sbk owner) , I think if anything the plate holder / rear guard / reflector should be reworked . Back end would a lot cleaner as a result. (so would a certain new 2004 R6 owners bike :wait: )

The squared-off zorst is no prob, looks kinda styley in its own way. certainly disctinctive - if I see that arse-end anywhere around, I'll at least know what it is at a glance.

I think that bike is beautiful... I like the older one even more (I think its that square brakelight thing just like the >90's zxrs). Ducatis are constantly re-defining things eg daring to be different. UNIQUENESS is what makes bikes evolve... its a beautiful thing to watch :niceone: .
