Hah - keep us honest, I reckon it may be the other way around as a big bike might be a disadvantage on that circuit having seen the map. We could be chasing the smaller nimble bikes, it looks like a hoot circuit for motards. wonder if I can squeeze the DR into the van as well. So is your bike back together?

Dunno about bein out front,
I will probably take it a bit easy for a start as i havent had it out since dropping it at levels lol.
It does seem a good circut though but im still on road tires, but i am picking a new rim [4 inch] up in christchurch that i hope fits on the rear but wont have any tires for it.
At least if it fits on i will be able to get some decent race tires.
Yer the dr will fit so go to it.

...looks like a lot of serious street racing in all classes,25 classics more than Ive seen at a street race in along time a few fast ones in the field should make the older bikes look pretty impressive, more pre 72s than Ive seen in a while too, about 20, and amazingly enough we have cracked about 20 pre 89s, huge field of 82s , the appropriate amounts of Motards, too many, ah fuck!..shot myself again....and a bunch of very competitive riders in the Formula Methven class....and about 30 of the keenest racers in the country, the BUCKETS.....yeeha!....

That was a great day. The course is brilliant for spectators, there is always a bike going past. A bridge across the track could possibly come in handy as I think some tracktime was wasted with spectators crossing over.
It's been a while since I've made it to some street racing but it seemed like St John's did more laps than they should have. I'm really hoping that they run the event again in 2-3 years.
Awesome day, great pubs and food and it was great how close you were to the track! Awesome ride there and back, hopefully they run it again next year!! AWESOME PHOTOS Bikern1mpho!!!!!!!! woooh wat a day!

Crapping hell. I wondered what happened to Brendan and now I know. I saw the motard guy and he was lucky just to have the broken arms. It was disgusting that everyone had to yell at the St John's for them to assist him though!! Think they were having a natter and a cup of tea. And yes I know they volunteer but if you take on that level of responsibility you should do the job properly!

...was a great day, the huge number of entries was cool but also brought its problems with it, track is cool but we certainly know a few things that need to be looked at IF it happens again, and we hope it does. Thanks for the positive comments and we will certainly be listening to any constructive criticism.
At the end of the day, it was a first for the Methven LIONS, a long time and different committees/members since CAMS has done something this big . I dont think there is anything we can do about the amount of down time due to 'offs', whether ridiculous riding or racing incidents are the cause. ...its the twist of the wrist that is up to individuals....
Buckets on streets are the cure for all ills, I reckon. Haven't had so much fun racing since Greymouth. ...heard a whisper that there may be Buckets at Wyndham this year....could be an unfounded rumour also...?

First of all a huge thank you to Buddha for looking after my bike for the last week and taking it to Methven for me.
Thunder and I went down on Friday afternoon to stay the night in Methven. Had a nice evening with Dangerous, Rashika and Torren, also caught up with a few others.. I had a great nights sleep and got up bright and early on race day. The nerves didn't set in till riders briefing, I hadn't raced since BOB in december last year! The practice was OK, I was taking it slow and easy - that first corner is a bitch!!!
it was great to see so many spectators throughout the day, lots of friends came down from chch. Apparently Iameasy to find - distinctive laugh?? There was lots of carnage and delays, but we got 2 races in, I was always last, but I stayed upright. Thunder was a lap scorer for the day as he is not allowed to race for another 3 months.
Thel ovely fireliv took fantastic photos for me, someofwhich I have posted. Rollon next week - South Island Cup Timaru.

Well, mmm wot to say, very eventful, great day out, not sure about the feelings that I am left with after the day. Farking ouch, was a first, and something of an experience. Practice on the RD was dusty and hair raising, turn one was somthin else!!!!, turn 2 had lots or potential for more speeed, turns 3 and 4, nice S bend, turn 5 was cool, though on the bucket the rear would twitch a little, and turn 6 into the start finish chioce.
Both practices had me sweatin, it was work for sure, but smile's on the face non less. !st race, remained in front of dangerous, which had me happy. The day out there was awesome, sunny, warm and great crowd watching the show. That first turn on either the RD or the bucket was a tricky one, trying to leave the brakes as late as poss' without getting up someones jaxy.
Now I have never crashed on me bikes road or track, but seen plenty of carnage around me. The bails sure made the circuit nice and intimate, but no doubt awesome for the spectators.
I was lovin the bucket and was on the tail of some fella, through the S's and into turn 5, with my aim of getting past at the pin. before I knew it the bike and I were getting all cosy with hay. I felt like I went doof, but Mrs Bullet was watchin me tumble and it was more DOOF doof dof. I remember seeing the sky and thinking Mmmm. aside from that, I wanted to get to the bike, a fire fella came over and wanted to get it up right, standing with me back to the bales was a little scary, there was no slowing in the bikes coming around... yellow flag out???? no idea. fire guy jumped on bails and I did the same. Ole Phxgtr came round the corner at good pace and crunch and a huge wobble!! great work in stayin on there!!!!
I had a nice wee chat to a lady about I did not realy want to be on this side of the bales. heard the red flag got pulled out, and recovered me mess. The exaust is more aerodinamic, the foot peg a little bent, and fork a little munted. Me? well I must have hit the shoulder on the tar first... them me hip, and oposing elbow., Did not hurt much then, but bloody tender now.
Got one more race on the RD, the bucket was out of comission.
All in all a great day, kinda gutted I had a tip that ended up with further drama's
Me daughter drew a picture which is a great rendition of my performance, very sad, but I am sure some may enjoy, will post up once I get it scanned.

And here is the pic, She did a great one, though one correction... I had no tears, and I was wearing protective gear at the time. She is only 7 though.
The bike is the right way round, and Phxgtr struck the right side bar pretty damn hard.

Well i had a day with mixed results. I too am surprise about the quality of product CAMs and Methven Lions have put togeather for their fist year......Yes some improvements would be needed for the next one but thats part of life.......learning.
I was happy with the first part of the Motard Practice, but 2/3rds into practice outside the Blue Pub my front brake lever pull to the bar with no warning, I quickly released and grabbed the front again and with the rear locked and only minimal front brackes over shot turning onto the main straight and pulled up with only cm to spare from being imbedded in a large square hay bale. Back at the pits i set to replacing the front fluid.
The bucket practice went well and felt ok, Kickaha told me afterward that Bren DC and I seem to have the best pace of the feild.
Motard race one, gridded up at the back of the field and got a good start and decided to push it along and see how the front brake stood up. the race was red flagged due to a pile up on the start line. the race was restarted and i ran in the back 1/3 of the field and felt the front brake fading so backed off and finished with little to no front brakes.
Bucket Race one, Gridded up on the front row and got a good start went into turn one in third and Glen Haward had a big moment and used me as a pin ball and we both stayed upright I ran in third for a couple of laps watching DC and Bren drawing away. I muffed the hairpin badly which let Glen through a couple of moe laps and we came onto the start finish straight to find Bren having a lie down. the race was red flagged and on count back I had a 4th. pretty happy with that considering who had finished behind me.
Motard Race two, much of the same but once again like practice I lost the front backs with no warning and parked it in the run off area outside the blue pub and waited for the finish of the race.
Bucket Race two, got a good start again and put my head down and got two turn one in third behind DC and Glen, I didnt feel as comfortable this time and soo found myself under pressure from Tony Mac and DD, Left my braking as late as possible into the hairpinand kept my position the next lap from knoware Dan O passed me and with a large gap back to the next pce I backed off and finished in 4th again.
Looking forward to the First round of the South Island Cup next weekend at Levels!

So how did the pre'89s go? Who won and on what?? Good question... being in the race I have no idea, Id expect the big bores were up frount, altho they did fall over a lot on the hair pin as it was damn near a stop and go turn.
And here is the pic, hehe aparentyl you 'stink' LOL how gutting, awesom pic man
Farking ouch,
1st race, remained in front of dangerous,
Well Idid tell ya after rnd1 that ya dont wana be doing that...
AND you forgot to mention in race 2 I wiped ya smile of ya face as I beat ya on a tiddly wee RD250 Vs ya big RD400 ;)
and Glen Haward had a big moment and used me as a pin ball and we both stayed upright
fark yeah, I was right behind ya's GH hit the bail rather hard and bounced into you, and that was a hard hit aswell, Im sure with less skill you both would have gone down.
Something noticed and the photos show it is most riders seemd to change their riding positions, I expect due to the bails on the inside of the turns, and being unable to see around.

I was very impressed with the preperation of your XS Triplenut, and the 850 you had available for purchase was as sweet as too.
The sound of that 900 was sweet music, Good on ya mate, I hove the damage from the little off was only minor.
I had a great day watching all you KB boys having a ball, and the girls all did it in style, without an off.
Everybody I have spoken too agrees it was worth the effort to attend the meeting, and would do so again, the tight circuit really making it a spectators meeting.
Well done to the town for such a successfull event first time round.

Nice footage. From the comments people were making I expected the track to be a lot smaller! They definitely packed a lot into 1km! I see what people mean about the blind corners... plus as a rider I really wouldn't want to mess with a big square bale- they're not exactly going to move or give much if you hit them

Methven LIONS have called a public meeting to gauge the local comments etc, but it seems that we may have another crack next year. A few things to get right that eluded us this year.
We have already decided that we cant have the downtime that was caused this year by the ridiculous amount of pretty unnecessary time with bikes on the deck in the sighting/practice laps. There will be changes to ensure this, which may be unpopular with many but the safety of the public and the riders, and getting the full program of rounds in , is more important to us than a few bruised competitor egos.....

Whats being proposed is anyone arseing up in pratice or a warmup lap will be sent home there and then. Im not suer that I agree as there may well be a few inercent riders cought up and sent off, as its not just the dick heads that crash.
Id be more keen on a pace car perhaps, even tho I have not liked them in the past, but that was more about the driver, I can see the merits in it now..

FFs a pace car? why not just a man with a red flag?
Maybe they are right , if you cant cut it in practise maybe you shouldnt race simple.
Remember you are the guy who thoght FXRs and CBRs should be banned from buckets I dont always agree whith your ideas.

How about a man who knows how to wave a red (or yellow) flag when called for?? From my view on the sideline there were a few that didnt know how to do that.
All in all its a good event and hope that with some appropriate changes it can become a well worth it event to the Methven community.

Hi all especially those that enquired how I was. I have been home a week and on road to hopefully full recovery.
Thanks CAMS for a great day, pity I can only remember a bit of it. Aparently I was having a good day riding FZR1000 #73 in the pre 89 class and the DR650 #117 in the SuperMotard.
I am told I started 8th on grid of pre 89 and finished 2nd. Lot slower on the DR and was being lapped when there was some sort of incident and I went into a haybale. Severly broke both wrists and cracked both the Occipital lobe of skull and C1 vertibrae so am pleased to be still around. Have had 5 operations on wrists and they did an amazing job although I am held together by titanium pieces. I hope to get back to racing but will be late in year at earliest but depends on what doctors say about my neck. I owe thanks to heaps of people and have done so personally but can't remember a lot about the first few days so if I missed you its not a deliberate snub. Will see you at the track sooner or later as I will return even just as support for a start.
Cheers guys, catch up to you all soon.

I had planned on continuing my surf lessons I just started the week before the accident as I try to graduate from body boards to full size surf boards but that will have to wait too. Think I will try fishing soon as my hands are capable and have been meaning to upgrade my programming skills as I may be involved in teaching a development paper using Java soon. Will put that off as long as possible though as I am not an enthusiastic programmer and dare I say prefer .NET environment. Hate being unable to drive for 2 months though. Not expecting to be too bored as I will find stuff to do. Thanks for well wishes all, I am doing well!

A relief to find you are on the way up...and thinking about future rides ....dunno about this surfing lark tho, sounds dangerous to me...all those submarines and sharks and fish, all pissing in the water...

I am keeping busy. Doing a bit of reading and have exercises to do.
On ya gaz....2 months without driving....how long does someone gotta wipe ya arse? hehehehe
