Just a quick note to all south Wgtn folk - there's a speed reading trailer thing set up on the crest of the hill on the main road in Karori if anyone wants to calibrate their speedo (assuming the reader thing tells the truth). :wait: I did a few drive-bys the other night cause my speedo's been out for about a year now and I've never known exactly how much it's out by. Only prob is that if you go over 59 it won't tell you how fast you're going. It's so tempting to do a huge wheelie past it but it's right near some side roads. And more importantly, I can't do wheelies.

Girl yo're letting the side down. Oh that's right I can't do wheelies either, except little ones by accident. Get WT to teach you - just make sure there's no wind!

Hey, even I can do wheelies! So what if it was on a 100cc Honda dirt bike and it was when I missed second gear going uphill and no one saw me - it still counts, right?

I wish they had one of those around here, I have no idea how accurate the speedo on the Goose is - the one on the RG150 was hopeless - I got told off for going too SLOW when I sat my full licence because what I thought was 70 was only about 60! Unfortunately it didn't stop me getting a ticket for 123kms - god knows what the speedo was reading that day, I must have thought I was flying!

Heh - I don't know if my lil bike's up to it! One day........ You, on the other hand, need to give us a good name eh. Once you're back into it I want to see some decent concentrated effort and some 100m+ results, ok?

Woah - someone deleted my other thread real quick! Who was that? I only just asked Blakamin to just then.

Allrighty then!

As long as it doesn't result in me having to ring my boss and say, "you know how I had 7 weeks off at Christmas with my neck, and then 6 weeks off when I broke my scaphoid, well ....". Perhaps, on second thought, I'd better behave for a while. Sorry chic, it's all up to you!

They've had several here in D'Auckland - the cheap'n'nasty ones do the "up to 59 then flash SLOW" thing, but the 'good' ones read whatever speed you're going, so it's fun to see how fast you can register between when the car in front of you goes past and when you get to it. Then there's the ones that when you go wicked fast, tell you how many $$$ you've earned. But there's no sign saying where you can go to collect your winnings.

I can wheelie when I put the bike on its centre stand and sit back on it. The wheel lifts clear off the ground (approx 10mm) - takes a bit of skill and precision but I reckon you could prob do it too!!!

I don't have a centre stand tho! Does a wheelie on your own bike while being pillioned count?

Hmmmm. Half points I think. For guts. I find it scary enough being on the back of a bike let alone one that's wheelying!

The STeed's speedo is out by 2% (reads low). I have a hand-held GPS if anybody wants to calibrate their speedos...

There was also a trailer-mounted speedo thingee outside the Hilda Ogden Home on Burma Road over the weekend.

Tried one of those digital speed things, rode towards it flat out in 3rd gear and only got 58 kph - but then I looked back and saw a logging truck cruising behind me!! :wait: (the device often 'targets' the largest object)

Those speed trailers are quite fun, back when the first started appearing, we encountered one on a back road out woolston way here in Christchurch, spent the next few hours having a comp to see who could get the greatest fine displayed with a '3 lamp post' starting point...

Oh to be young again...

There was one of those down my street last night.
We didnt have our bikes, as we were heading to the pub.

But I did have my running shoes!
Got 22km past it. (keep in mind that my belly was full of beer!)

I'm still trying to locate one when I've got the bike... partner told me about one the other day, but 20mins later when I got there it was gone... gutted.

As for Blakamin's theory on speedo error - I tootled past a cop at 220 a few weeks back, and he didn't do anything either. He put his lights on and turned around. But since he never stopped me I guess my bike speedo must be reading 110% fast and he was on his way to another callout. :msn-wink:
