It's about time something like this was done. It should also be extended to all the sluts who stay at home all day breeding like rabbits who are on the dole costing this country millions of $ every year who can't even take proper care of their kids.

Interesting idea... appealing to the greedy nature of people does sound like an idea that could work... there are no moral arguments, it's all down to a personal choice so don't see why Tau Huirama is shocked... Personally, i can't see a problem with such a "solution"...

it is completely, fatally flawed. and pointless. Why? because the scum think they are entitled to breed, and dont acknowledge wrong, and we taxpayers provide advantage to them to have more kids.
When its compulsory, when I am in charge, and I make the decisions on your applications for a breeding licence, then we'll talk.

I don't really care if these people are breeding.
However we need to stop paying them to do it.
We are well into the time where breeding is optional - contraception makes the whole thing optional, for some a lifestyle choice (nothing wrong with that if you can afford it), but for others a career choice. Why should I, as a taxpayer, fund these people?
I'm always amazed at the comments of some people who say it's their "right" to have a kid. I dunno about a right to breed, but why should the taxpayer pay for it?
By all means offer free contraception, sterilisation and abortion to these troglodytes, but no lump sums.
Just stop paying benefits to (DPB, Working for Families etc) and make people plan and pay for parenthood themselves.

I too agree with Oscar in this instance.
What brought it home to me was standing in a bank queue and listening to the 2 young "ladies" behind me, planning when they were going to have their next offspring for the sole reason of increasing their DPB payout.
How can we have been so stupid as to make this possible?
I have been told (although I have no idea how true it is) that Canada has a similar system. The difference is that there is no increase for additional kids. Apparently the idea is that one mistake is permissible but any extra is just carelessness.

$5K incentive to get neutered.... fair enough...
Wonder how much it will cost us in compo with the old "Boo Hoo, I was vunerable and taken advantage of - its not fair I demand recompense for this trampling of my human rights'" crap...
$5K would be cheap. I've been doing a wee job in ChCh and went for a walk in New Brighton to get some lunch.. Fark me - no one person I passed in the street was without serious 'issues' and half of em had kids tagging along... sweet jesus....

I'm sorry I can't agree. While I agree its very wrong to provide any incentive for using th DPB as a lifestyle choice and would welcome a workable alternative, i think you're forgetting about the poor bastard kids who didn't ask to be born. There's none so blind...........
The kids we are talking about here suffer anyway. Imagine living with a single parent who can't see further than their next DPB payment and the environment that generates. We haven't even mentioned the health and substance abuse statitics.

That could work I guess... but my views on the answer aren't exactly mainstream (Resource-Based Economy for me (communistic to a certain extent))... and as such I fear that until the government implement ideas such as the one stated by Garrett, NZ will go from the communistic 80's and end up stuck in the rut of rich getting richer, the poor getting poorer and all governments screwing the people in an attempt to balance the books... because money is more important to an economy than the people (I mean expendable resources)...

Half the reason the poor are getting poorer is the fact that half of them are a pack of lazy fuckers that are hell bent on bleeding this small country dry by way of social welfare type payments.
NZ is riddled with LAZY people, people who think they are owed a living when they contribute nothing, 2nd 3rd 4th generation LAZY fuckers........consecutive governments allow this to continue as they have no FUCKING BALLS to address the problem.
Cut welfare payments radically and encourage "the lazy fuckers" into education and give them an incentive to contribute to their existence.
But now I finished ranting, its always a balance isnt it, however I think the balance is fucked up as it always points towards the minority interest, i.e if we have wealth in the DOC lands and its only going to be a minor intrusion to get at it, let dig the freckin stuff out and sell it FFS, screw the greenies who want to live with a horse in a grass skirt praising mother earth (who is prolly on DPB welfare anyway)

Very true... but like you say, the bleeding hearts are always trying to "manage" society and that's never worked where there's a $ involved. The incentive for being paid not to have kids is a great idea... providing noone can take advantage of it. It should, in theory, save the country plenty of money/agro whatever you wanna call it. I can't believe that Key just dismissed as not being part of the National plan... he must see the benefits...

The problem with digging stuff up to sell is that the companies that get the work could potentially provide work for 2000 people (2000 for arguments sake)... but in all likelyhood, and driven by profit margins, only 1500 people would likely be employed... yes it's better than nothing, but when that "resource" runs out... then what... back to square one... The rich will be happy because they are now richer (their company so why not), but the workers will be out of a job... potentially permanently... it's just another short term solution to generate some $$$... we're in the 21st century... short term solutions should be a thing of the past... I'd rather be raising my kids (24/7) than having to work to fund a roof over their heads, put clothes on their backs, provide transport for them etc... and pay the government almost half of my salary in taxes for the privilege...

I'll take option B thanks Phil... I see the real bludgers as those who accumulate money and don't put it back into the system... they just save it and get exhorbitant amounts of interest from the banks... they could essentially live for free, but in the pursuit of $$$ can never have enough... at least the DPB folk put most of the money back into the system...

Common dude, 1500 people will be richer for it to, and nothing is forever we all (those who work) live by the knowledge that our jobs may not last forever.

Agreed, those 1500 people may well be richer for it... We all know nothing is forever, but we don't save as if that's the case... mainly because the lower paid ends of society rely on their salaries to see the week through... saving isn't an option, because there's nothing left to save... so when the job terminates yadda yadda... I guess it's all swings and roundabouts... some will prosper, some won't...
Your vision of how it could/should be done is noble... i fear those that actually get in there won't be as noble as yourself... intent on getting rich... but that's my bias I guess...

Didi it ever occur to you that those without savings didn't "piss it against the wall", they just didn't have anything
left to save after paying thier cost of living. And if they did have savings, I'm sure you'd happily tell them to spend all that before comming to the state for assistance.
Never mind, I know its way earsier to make assumptions to justify the chip on your shoulder.
And you're right some of the people on DPB won't give fuck about the tax payer, but I was asking people to consider the welfare of the kids remember?.
Christ, any mention of phisical abuse or sexual abuse of children and folks on here are all too happy to rant and rave about how they would exact retribution upon the offender but it would seem we are more than happy to let them starve in the streets in order to punish their parents.

Yep that's what caused the recession. No controls on the banks and look how much they ripped us of for. No controls on home lending and it all turned to custard. Way to go. I'd give more but what's the point. I'm just amazed at how many see this as A 'OK.'

The only reason that NZ didn't suffer more from the world wide recession is the fact that most of our banks are Australian.
It was Aussie Govt. regulation that saw thiese banks strong enough to withstand the failure that dogged banks worldwide.

We are only just out of the last communistic NZ state, it ended in the 1980s.
Less government control on every thing and more incentive on everything is the answer my freind The last communistic state ended in the 1980s? - the era of Roger Douglas, preceded by Muldoon ..................????? Ah well...both darlings of the despots!

I'm all for this. Best to rid the human gene pool of inferior bloodlines such as these child abusers.
