Have you ever just wanted to bugger off.

Not just a weekend jaunt, but an endless ride that ends only when you decide not when you have to.

I ride my bike a lot, touring, fast rides, all sorts.

But some times I wish I could just leave , pack up and go, just ride where ever and when ever.

No mobile phones, no kids, no x wife, no business to run, no newspapers, no computer, no pressure.

I admire people who are able to do it, cruise around the country, or overseas, on two wheels. Never worrying about the next pay check, or where to sleep, what to eat. Just taking each day at a time, handling whatever might get thrown at you.

Would I get bored?

One day when the kids are older, and I no longer run a business, when the commitments are not so pressing, I am going to go........

Motorbiking has given me a taste of freedom, is it wrong to want more?!

Who else has these dreams of escapism?

Me, me, me!!!!

And so much more now I have a bike. Now I have the means, but I stilll have the responsibilities of being the mum. I have found that coming home the long way helps, that and having a nice bourban as my reward for coming back home. It is so hard to drive into my driveway and put my bike away, I miss my bike and my bikes misses the road.

You do get a little of that freedom everytime you get on the bike, it just doesn't last as like as you would like.

Keep on enjoying each wee jaunt you take and know that one day you can escape, for now you are practicing.

Mate. I feel that too...

That is why I am planning a South Island tour for the end of the year.
Never been to the south and I think riding it will make it more memorable.

I just hate that there is several months in between now and then...

I despise these people. Scum of the earth.
Bloody wankers just love to rub it in my face.
I am going to teach my kids that sensible people live boring lives. Fuck university, fuck work ditto marriage.
Ride bikes. Have lots of partners. travel the world..........the rest will follow later.

Sounds nice. It's something many would dream of but few actually act on it.

Sadly, reality beach has a heck of a rip-tide.

All well and good in a fantasy world but, in the real world, the one we live in, not really going to happen is it. I mean, lets be honest about this.

Preaching to the choir here
I have been trying to work out how much i will need to retire on so to work out when i can.
it gets harder and harder to put the bike away when there are still so many roads that have not been ridden.
since last year doing just that for 2 weeks (bike gear and the visa card) it all seems so boring now, and with putting off our 2 weeks ride around the south island it is just too much to have to wait.

Yes - I'm flippant because I've done it. Co-pilot and me went Gypsy for a few years riding an XS1100 around Aus.
Great experience. It wears off in the end - unless you are Michael Palin.

Go on try it, you might like it, works for me.

Some bubbles need the air let out of them gently before they go pop, right in front of you.

Some times you need to belive in your dreams, if you don't what is the point of having them. If a sixteen girl can sail solo around the world alone, then i sure can follow mine. Doing what i suggested in the thread starter is ............"My Everest", i may not conquer it today, nor tomorrow, but one day i will conqueror it.

It is possible, you just have to make some sacrifices to make it happen if you really want it to.
Instead of the package holiday to Rarotonga / Fiji / Gold Coast, get a flight to Bali, hire a bike and spend a couple of weeks cruising around Indonesia.... Amazing how cheaply you can live if you want to.

Yea - just gags.
Insert picture of supertanker here.

I don't find any risk taking activity inspirational - any more than Crusty Demons or Carver. Entertaining. Worthwhile - if people gain enjoyment from it - all for it.
I tell hyou what I find inspirational - and I've told her so too - The Guzzi Widow - and people like her that take a crap hand and play it like a true champion.

They make me want to do more with the cards I've got.

While the idea of what raftn is suggesting may appeal to some, it is stuff of fantasy.
I guess, who wouldn't want to be able to do all of what he says?
But (and heres the real hammer) make it more obtainable.
I explain. This morning, I drove though our small but lovely town on my way to work, I saw a mate sitting having coffee at a cafe' with his M109 parked close by.
He runs a Trade Business here and on any ven day he will decide to take the day off a go for a ride. Today is just perfect for a ride.
Last year, myself and Mom had no work one friday so jumped on the bike and did the Northland loop, had a wonderful day.
While most were at work, we were out playing on some great roads....now thats obtainable!

I hear the call, feel the urge, all the time. Motorcycling reminds us of a primal/instinctive need for “freedom.” We humans create these civilisations, cultures and “society” with all its imposed pressures, yet inside a lot of us a nomadic flame still burns. Free thinkers, free spirits, whatever term you choose to apply, we hear that call just a little bit louder than everyone else.

For many years I've been dreaming of a trip from Dead Horse Alaska (end of the road, North) to Ushuaia Argentina (end of the road, South), with no particular plan for the bit in the middle other than "generally, head south"

The need to continue to run my business, to not let my clients down, the lack of somebody to travel with (2 is better for travelling, both for enjoyment, and safety esp in the dodgy bits south of the US) and various other issues stand in my way.

If only I was a famous actor.

Reality checks are boring.

May never happen, but the dream has kept me going since my hubby died.
My plan is to sell up once the kids are out the door, purchase a section somewhere so I have something to come back to, then bugger off for as long as the money lasts.
In the meantime I take small nibbles at the dream when I get the chance.
That's the point of dreams, it gives one something to think about when real life sux.

no need to sell up Ratti............im gonna be freehold next year...........gonna borrow another eighty grand............chuck my job, rent my house out, which should cover the payments on the loan and rates, leave thirty grand here in an acc in case the rent doesnt get paid for a while, and have fifty k to go wandering for a couple of years kickin off on the isle of man 2011.

I know exactly what you mean.. I have them all the time.. The only thing that stops me.. Is having no cash.

If i didnt have to worry bout cash, Jobs and all that other crap.. i would.. I would just get up off my arse, Buy a good decent bike and ride. Ride until it gets dark.. Sleep.. Then get up again the next morning and ride as much as possible. Eat when i need to eat. pee wherever the hell i want to .. And just ride til night rolls around again.. If the next day is shitty.. Then just lay down and go back to sleep.. Then the next day.. Get up and again.. Just ride..

And the Complex answer is we have made our lives so complicated that the thought of just getting up one morning going out and getting on the bike and going, seems more of a fantasy for most of us than a reality, because most of us do have to worry about paying the bills seeing thae cat gets feed, the children get put out at night, ........
But fuck yea I'd love to be able to go where I want when I want, and be responsible to no one, but I am as trapped in this box of tiki tac, as the next man.
