Headlamp is dim, hopefully not as dim as me

Hey all,

I have been having a problem with my headlamp, I don't ride at night often but when I want to I have to take my car because the headlamp never wants to stay on, It stays fine while I am idle but if I rev it the light fades to nothing. I don't ride it that often, could it just be a flat battery?

I are biker newb.

A faulty stator will do that.
