Sir Anthony Hopkins will star in "The World's Fastest Indian", the true-life story of Burt Munro, a New Zealander wo spent several decades constructing a 1920 Indian Motorcycle, then traveled to Utah and set a new land-speed record back in the 70's. Roger Donaldson, director of "The Recruit" is using his own writing and is directing the project.

Look for it, mates, New Zealand is famous among bikers here for what Kiwis have done with the Indian, and the only country to ever put an Indian on a post stamp.
In any case, that might be worth to find out when and where they'll be shooting, and in the meantime I will also try to find out more since the other place where they will shoot for sure is Utah, a good days ride from Colorado where I live.

Wouldn't want to miss it for the world, Sir Anthony Hopkins as Burt Munro on a 1920 Indian racer, and part of your history as well, pretty cool!

Hope he can do a convincing kiwi accent...

Get really annoyed with movies that supposedly portray New Zealanders and screw up the accent, mannerisms etc.

Still, I like Sir Anthony, he's a good actor and I look forward to seeing the movie.

well if they're filming already in South Beach, GO THERE! I tell you people, this is really big stuff for New Zealand.
Hey wayfarer, how goes it? aren't you gonna check it out? You gotta!
If anyone does go on the set, it would be very much appreciated if you let me know when they'll be in Utah to finish the set, please?
And by the way, are there any bikers here that own Indians?

Roflmao, he wouldn't even know how to install it let alone compress a file with it (anyway win xp has built in zip'ing function).

Yep saw the 2 indians dragging at ruapuna, the munroe rep got beaten by about 20m every time, couldnt get the power down good enough, was starting to reel the other one in though.

Here is a link to info about it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0412080/
Doesn't say when its due out, sometime before the end of the year.

Just a random guess here but is Wayfarer me? Have two problems with going to where ever it is they are filming. One being I have no idea where it is and how to get there and two is not having my own set of wheels to go anywhere on at the moment. I'll just wait for it to hit theaters.

Wana bet ya wee shit :D 1st I get out my hammer, batt drill, super screws........ then I "install" it in through that sliddy tray thing that opens on the puter, ok.... then to "compress" the file I get the 10lb sledgy out and a sprit level and belt the fuk out of the board thingy with all the buttons on it............... so there toe rag, sorted :Punk:

My Grandad used to ride an Indian way back in the day.

/random useless information

Looks like it may be a good movie. Certainly can't be worse than Biker Boys and Torque.

It was filmed around Invercargill and is well gone.
They finished up a couple of months ago.
My understanding was that the actual running replicas used for action shots had Ducati motors in them.

I hope I'm not the only one that think's there is something wrong with that.

Yep, as I thought.
Taken from http://www.indianmotorbikes.com/features/munro/movie.htm

The vehicular star of the movie is Burt’s 1920 Indian. The original is owned by a collector in New Zealand and is far too valuable to be subjected to the rigors of filming, so a replica was built to take its place. Actually, there are three replicas – a complete version of the original, a second that is just a chassis and body and was used for camera-car action shots, and a third that’s powered with a Ducati twin and was used for stand-alone action sequences.

Douh! Bonneville is but a days ride from here, douh douh and double douh!
Guess I'll just have to wait for the movie like everyone else.
Thanks for all the info and the responses from all you dodgy bastards. :-)

Well I know of two replicas I saw and heard running sure as hell were NOT Ducati powered....... however the bike that wa used in the actual speed runs for the movie may have been, as in that rep the motor cant be seen so it makes sence.

The pics here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=9317 show a naked (bike that they raced on the day) and a faired bike (on display) both were identacal motors in all, look at the pic below and tell me its out a Itialy.

Yeah, apparently there was only one Ducati motored bike.
BTW I remember a couple of years ago seeing the AJS motor in the window of (I think) CycleTreads in Christchurch that Burt converted to OHC.

The Britten factory made the reps and the ones for the speed tests had Cagiva Elephant motors (Ducati?).

It probably doesn't matter as the soundtrack will be crafted in some sound studio.

Like in those old shows where you had guys riding two stroke motocrossers that sounded like HD's or was that the other way round?

I'm sure that the Munro Indian will sound wicked in the film just the right amount of reverb etc.
