Hands up those who can tell me how long it should take to fix a puncher using a plug and not fixing it from the inside?

you know, the one caused by a little nail.

Let me tell you. 1 1/2 F*&KING hours.

'yeah come on down now, our guys can fix it for you right away'

'ok so you want the plug cause it is faster to fix? no worries'

1 and 1/2 F$%KING hours of my time wasted.

and why? Smoko time.

I did mine on the side of the road in twenty minutes - including pumping the tyre up by hand.....it just took KiwiDan 45 minutes to realise I was no longer behind him and come back!!!

CycleTreads internally fixed mine in 30 minutes max.

Yeh, I used all of my plugs from my kit, that is why I had to go to the shop. I will have to buy some more.

We call those a string repair,while they are not illeagal - you will fail a WoF with one.They want you to strip the tyre from the wheel,remove any offending article,inspect the inside of the tyre,then repair from the inside,preferably using a ''mushroom'' patch - they go right through the tyre as a plug and also patch the inside.

To repair the tyre on the wheel should be less than 10mins - like a max of $15 for the repair.I presume you are also including removal and refitting of the wheel?

Steve at Leading Edge tyres repaired mine with a bung as a freebie on the provisor that I went back and replaced the old tyre with a new one form their shop when it wore out (ie before the next WOF check) - which I did :)

Got a good price on a pair of michellin pilot sports too.

Otherwise go to motomail - I have heard many good words of Kerry...

I have brought most of my tyres from Steve and normally go to Leading edge for repairs, but I was at work in CBD so had to go somewhere close.

Normally I would get the full repair from the inside done but I was in a hurry as I needed to get back to work, so opt for the quick fix, what a joke. and the string fix still cost me $15 and I do not think they would have removed the tyre.

that was at Mt Eden Motorcycles

Interesting...Well the more we share, the more we know I guess.

Thanks for the heads up. Haven't had any prob's at Mt Eden myself, but have heard a few bad things here and there. In saying that, I usually go to Colemans or another Suzuki specialist for anything more than minor work - although you would think any monkey could sort a tyre out!

yes you would think that.

Mt Eden are normally pretty good and this is the first time I have had probs, then again I have never gone there for anything major, I go to spectrum.

I did have a friend who tooks his VFR there and said it came back worse then it went in.

I think like all things there are good days and bad days.

Quite right but every one in a service industry should know by now that any business is only as good as that customers last visit!

If that were my customer and they had expressed that time was more important than anything else, but my guys went on a lunch break in spite of the "while U wait" factor I would have refused payment from the customer and suggested that the staff member be docked the time for it.

You only get to make a first impression once.
Good = More business
Bad = Less business
Excellent = Job security.

I have refused to pay over less.

Well,the guys are leagaly contracted to have breaks after certain time periods - what would OSH say if something happened (does with tyres) and found the offending person was 10 mins over their required break period? ooooh,bad news...don't go there!

I'm in a service industry - shit happens,I don't give a rats arse anymore - customers come a long second to my mental state and how my workers feel.Come to me for a puncture in my lunch break and I'll say come back later - give me a sob story and I'll say come back tomorrow.I've just put my WoF price up - I'm having fun when they say...but they only charge $25 down the road....well,you know where to go for a cheap WoF then eh?

I know the guys at Mt Eden - just bought a bike off Mike....they are motivated and like to please - go back and moan,they will be happy to help ease the pain....come to me for some old world charm:eek:

Understood but why say you can do it then if you cant?
And why do they all have to take their break at the same time?

The customer is not always right but when dealing with customers we should be under promising and over delivering.

If you can't deliver the service don't take the money.:angry2:

Ps Not meant at you in particular motu but at all the people who tell you three hours before taking three days to fix your only mode of transport:angry2:

Is that for real, Motu? It's mandatory to have set breaks? I guess that my going 6 hours without a break puts my employers offside with OSH. Must remember that at review time.

I shut down during breaks - no one is on the floor,if some one wants something done I tell them that we will be there after we finish our coffee.As crew chief I have to be always available,but it's important even for me to replenish my liquids and put some food in - if I don't stop for lunch I don't have lunch,simple as that.

But yeah,bit places that are customer services need to have people on the floor at all times(banks!!!!) Mt Eden advertise 7 to 7 7 days,they need to have capable guys in attendence at all times.I have an excuse - I'm not a capable guy.

you're right motu, we need our breaks, like lou I tend to work through and eat at my desk, and 4 what? to make money for someone else?

shit screw the customers I'm off 4 a break.

still think if you say you can do it now, then do it now, that is what pissed me off the most.

This is exactly what I mean, service does not mean putting your staff at risk it just means that you have to meet or exceed the expectations you give to your customers.

You would have no complaints from me if you 4 hours to fix the puncture if that was what I was quoted in the first place!:)
