Tangiwai...I was 3 months old,and a couple of little girls in my family were orphaned. My mother lost track of them, and later in life set about finding them. She found one in the cemetery on Waiheke Island where I was living at the time, and found the other alive.Life was different in those days...people were lost to families....

Sportwise. the mighty all Blacks could win every world cup until the end of time but nothing, nothing, will put this little country in the hearts minds and memories of the rest of the world more than a decent performance by your boys to follow this fantastic day, millions upon millions of people will know of New Zealand for decades to come if you even get close to the finals.
If by some major good fortune the boys made the final, literally billions of people across the world would be chanting NEW ZEALAND! From the forgotten tribes of the Amazon, the Inuit, the Germans, the Zulu, everyone would be able to point to New Zealand on a map (except the merikans of course) and for one glorious moment in time the population of Earth would believe that Australia was merely a part Of New Zealand, wouldn't that be farkin cool.
Anyway rant over, great day, come on the whiteys!

1984 - ICI, Mt Wellington An employee lost his life in this 4th alarm-plus fire which spread through ICI's Riverview plant in Bowden Road. He was rescued from the burning warehouse but succumbed a few days later from his injuries. His rescue was only the beginning: the mix of chemicals combining as the result of the fire meant the atmosphere and water in the building was toxic, as were the fumes outside that spread in the light breeze across southern suburbs. The run-off killed fish and water life in the adjacent estuary. Many fire fighters and others who had been in contact with this cocktail, or who took in the fumes even on the periphery of the fireground, suffered long-term health effects leading to an Enquiry which recommended tighter controls of hazardous materials and revised fire service operations at these incidents. Later instituted.

The words below are the way I see it also after reading the book 'Beyond Reasonable Doubt'
''During a major domestic in the Crewe house that Wednesday night in June, the irascible Harvey punched his wife so heavily that he broke a bone in her face – teeth were missing when she was found. She got Harvey’s rifle and shot him as he sat in his favourite chair in front of the fire.
Then she phoned her father Len Demler. Between them they disposed of Harvey’s body in the river and tried unsuccessfully to clean up bloodstains in the house. They burnt a probably bloodstained mat and a cushion in the lounge fireplace. Over the next few days Jeanette nursed her injury and became understandably desperate as she realised she faced a murder charge.
In this scenario, Jeanette was the woman seen near the house on the Friday when the police reconstruction said she was already dead and in the river. She was the person who dressed Rochelle and let her outside to play where she was seen by a passing driver on the Saturday morning. Later, she put her down in her cot in the pyjamas and two nappies the distraught child was found in. Jeanette garaged the family car originally seen parked alongside the house. She – and probably her father – moved stock and fed the farm dogs over those days.
Some time over the following weekend, she shot herself, and Demler put her body into the river, plus a rifle. On the Monday, he staged discovering the house and called the police. He never joined the search, telling the first trial: “I was worried about it, but there were plenty of others doing the searching. They were falling over each other.”

Seem to recall he was questioned in connection in a killing of an Aborogine. Don't think anyone was charged due to a lack of evidence.
